images and firewalls

i have a firewall installed on one of the machines. I just noticed that alot of galleries have broken images when it's enabled.

i wonder what % of surfers have firewalls

Fletch XXX 04-17-2003 11:56 AM

most probably have software ones installed id bet.

the more advanced household Dad's with 4+ computers for the different kids may have hardware firewalls...

Dazza 04-17-2003 12:18 PM

Norton fucks up my site, makes all the images broken, but anyone stupid enough to use Norton, isnt welcome on my site!

SetTheWorldonFire 04-17-2003 12:28 PM

norton works good for me, just not the firewall

nah, I run my site as a hobby, it just happens that it makes a lot of money too, its the best way my friend ;)

If I was gonna run a site like yours I'd have to re-consider...

oh no its not just Norton.

Norton is one of the best Firewalls in the business, but the .htaccess script i use wont allow Norton users to view my site, and I had to make a choice...

no Norton visitors... OR... a massive hosting bill...

I think I made the right choice

yeah, but them files can be hot linked

SetTheWorldonFire 04-17-2003 04:37 PM

okay, now... is there a way to avoid this?

or another way of going about preventing hot linkers and still be able to use a firewall

MattO 04-17-2003 04:40 PM

I prevent hotlinking by pulling images out of a SQL database
at least, I think it works...

Ditto. I turned of their firewall and use Zone Alarm (from zonelabs) instead. No problems with it ever. :)
