Trump Imposing 20 Percent Duties On Canadian Lumber Imports Starting Tomorrow
Trump can't squeeze a penny out of Mexico to pay for the wall but he's happy for us to pay more for wood now. What's next? Why is he penalizing the imports of our allies & not Chinese imports first?
#ThanksDonald ---- Trump Admin Plans To Impose 20 Percent Duties On Canadian Softwood Lumber | The Huffington Post WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) - U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Monday his agency will impose new anti-subsidy duties averaging 20 percent on Canadian softwood lumber imports, a move that escalates a long-running trade dispute between the two countries. Speaking to Reuters by phone a day ahead of the expected announcement, Ross said that the duties would affect $5 billion worth of softwood lumber imports from Canada. ?It?s about 31.5 percent of the total U.S. market, so it?s a pretty big deal in terms of the Canadian relationship,? he said. The trade case was filed at Commerce against Canadian lumber producers by their U.S. competitors, who argued that Canadian timber grown on public lands receives an effective subsidy from the government that is unavailable to the U.S. firms, who cut timber grown largely on private land. A Commerce Department fact sheet on the pending announcement seen by Reuters shows that West Fraser Mills will pay the highest duties at 24.12 percent, followed by Canfor Corp at 20.26 percent. Resolute FP Canada Ltd will pay a 12.82 percent duty, while Tolko Marketing and Sales and Tolko Industries will pay a 19.50 percent duty and J.D. Irving Ltd, will pay 3.02 percent. All other Canadian producers face a 19.88 percent duty, according to the document. The preliminary determination directs U.S. Customs and Border Protection to require cash deposits for the duties on all new imports as well as softwood products imported over the past 90 days. To remain in effect, however, the duties need to be finalized by Commerce and then confirmed by the U.S. International Trade Commission after an investigation that includes testimony from both sides. |
This is going to be great. The desperate orange idiot can't get anything done so he's starting a trade war with Canada. You tRump supporters must be so proud of your man. He's a wiener, I mean, winner. First he takes on North Korea then Canada. Make them your bitch tRump, then go after Iceland.

No attacking China or Russia
Instead attacks Australia, Germany, Mexico & Canada. Am I missing any other allies he's attacked? |
and the worst is :
'' on all new imports as well as softwood products imported over the past 90 days. '' So they did a sale in January , and now the seller will have to pay 20 % of the sale as duty ... ( more then his profit ) ... From now on, that will be collected at the border, american citizens paying for it .... Next is the milk .... Once you finished spending for Keystone, we will shut the fucking valve !!!! Youy can then make an amusement park with that pipeline .... :1orglaugh |

Hammond Lumber here in Maine has a mill in Canada. I bet they will be very pissed at this news. Also most of Lowes and The Home Depot get there lumber here in Maine from Canada. I was at Home Depot today and saw a huge 6 truck delivery of plywoods and pine boards all in a Canadian wrapping.

He's best friends with Xi now. He wont do anything to piss off that superpower.
So much for all those campaign promises to bring back jobs... lol |
The US will import Chinese steel wall studs to use in 'stick' construction -- lower cost than Canadian wood? The US hasn't had the domestic dimensional lumber to supply demand for years.

guess that backfired trump..
. Weyerhaeuser (WY), the Seattle-based forestry giant, slipped 2.2%. West Fraser Timber, one of the Canadian companies impacted by the new tariff, rallied 8.2% on the Toronto stock exchange. Trump's Timber Tax Raises Concerns Over Cost to Home Builders | Fox Business |
In the same spirit, we should raise the electricity tariff when supplying the East coast , to make the US pays at least as much as we pay for our own electricity .
Then water could follow , building dams .... :pimp |

poor americans they will pay that mistake of thje century with their prosperity. and not onöly that - it will effect canada too and they will need to make new trades with countries. countries where they can see and buy. canada is also a big importer of US goods and I think they have no reason anymore to buy it from US. this is so funny to see how this idiot wrecks the country and his under-IQed fans still support him. i have never seen such a show. |
Weyerhaeuser would decline based on lower new home construction and reduced demand of sheet goods like plywood and OSB sheathing board perhaps. This tariff is only on stick (dimensional) lumber products.
Weyerhaeuser :: Siding and Trim one other example. |

If this copmmerce stops, a ton of jobs are goping to be lost in the US, as we ship primary ressources that a re then transformed in the US and a lot shipped back to us... Don't think Trump can understand trade deals. Anyway, as usual, it will be reversed in WTO . |

they need to feel it by working more and harder and getting less for the money they make - and than let´s see if they still sing a hymn on this brainless idiot and his clown team what have occupied the white house to play a bit monopoly. this is a comedy show as i have never seen before. it´s like sending a bicycle driver without legs to win the formula one and there are still people who believe in that mountain of lies and unprofessionality. |
