trademarking a domain

Hey, I heard that you could trademark a domain name, so if someone hijacks it or something, you could sue them. Is this true, if so, can someone give me a link of where I can read about it and do it? Thanks

good question.

Also, what if someone registers a confusingly similar domain but you dont have a trademark. Lets say someone opens gofuckyourself2.com and puts up an adult webmaster msg board. Is there any legal recourse.

I suggest you visit the best Domain Name Message Board and go to the section "Legal Issues". There you'll probably find some help :winkwink:

I recently did mine through 4trademark.com

Paperwork arrived overnight ready for me to sign and submit

Once trademarked, no one can use your name for a similar product

Not that simple.

Judges in the US are starting to curb the reach of trademarks with respect to domain names. Too many fuckwits and assholes trying to use trademarks to sue just about anyone for anything.

For a domain hijacking alone you would have to pay the flopdicks at ICANN $1000 just to get the ball rolling for a UDRP.

And if someone does fuck with your registered trademark and you don't have the resources for footing a 5-6 figure legal bill you could loose the mark because you allowed it to be diluted.

I trademarked my domain back in 1998. Two years ago a competitor registered 7 variations of my domain and started using them. I filed a lawsuit and they settled within 2 days of receiving the suit. Got the domains, $5000 and my attorney fees.
