IS the Legal age for drinking and clubbing always 21 in US?

Hi,

Planning to visit US maybe soon again...WIth a friend who is 18

I remembered when I was in Vegas we had some issues going to clubs and ordering alcohol for some guys under 21....

Is this all over US? Or only some states?

Andre

At 18 you can get into some places, but you're not drinking. In Canada the age is 19. Growing up close to the border had it's advantages :thumbsup

for drinking yes..

but you can get into many clubs and bars if you are 18+ , not most of them though.. but they wont give you any alcohol drinks.

99.999% of bars and clubs won't let you thru the door unless you're 21.

that seems quite bizarre, i would imagine you had 18 year old soldiers fighting in iraq and they can't go and get a drink when they get back. I would have said at 18 your old enough to make your own mind up on everything.

19? Maybe in Ontario but in Quebec they have no trouble letting you drink at 14!

you have never been to my hometown New orleans.

for years it was 18 on new orleans, it was changed in the last year of my 20th birthday year.

for the last month until my 21st bday, I had trouble getting in some bars, but for the most part i could get in the bars I had been hanging in, just not the ones that were being targetted by the cops to enforce the rules.

XxXotic 04-16-2003 09:53 AM

they changed the legal drinking age from 18 to 21 a few years ago here in louisiana, can get into clubs and bars at 18 years old still, but no alcohol

I think everyone is guilty of drinking underage...we all had an older sibling's fake I.D. at one point and went to bars and drank our faces off! I remember celebrating my 19th b-day in one of our favourite places and telling the bouncer that it was my 19th...his response to that was...I thought u were 23 all this time???::drinkup

I'm sure your limited, underage life experiences make you right and me wrong. :winkwink:

Actually, the age is 18 or 19 depending on the province. Alberta (where I live) is 18.

Move to Aus. You can do everything at 18 hehe

Some years ago there were a few states that allowed drinking at age 18. At some point in time the Federal Government said that the drinking age could be lowered to 18 in all of the states that chose to do so. Within a relatively short period of time the death rate of teens (primarlily auto related) rose so high that the Federal Government ordered all states to raise the drinking age back up to age 21, including those states that had a drinking age of 18 prior to the ease of restrictions by the Federal Government.

there are only two ways that I know of to get in to a club if you are under 21.

1) get there early. A lot of places don;t put bouncers on their back doors til 9pm, but they have to have them unlocked during all business hours due to public blah blah blah laws

2) give the bouncer $100 with your ID, I'm pretty sure he'll read born in 1984 as born in 1981 when ben franklyn is helping him do his math.

Actually, soldiers that are 18 can buy beer or alcohol on the base. That is the plus about being under 21 and being in the military.

Yes it did.... We headed straight from Ann Arbor to Windsor almost EVERY weekend to hit Don Cherry's and stay at the Rose Ramada on Oulette Street. It was so cheap to road-trip there back then. (early 90's)
