BlueGravity seriously pissed me off today, should I make switch to Candid Hosting?
I had some small sites hosted on their shared hosting plan and decided to order a "Dual P3 1GhZ 1024MB RAM / 18GB HD" "surplus" server from them on Friday. Setup fee on their was listed at $400.
I initially phoned in to order it last Wednesday, to which they said "you have to e-mail sales or billing". So today (Tuesday) rolls around and I get an email from their support; "I just wanted to let you know that the dual server was already taken and you were put on the Single 1.0 Ghz with 512 MB of ram for $325. Let me know if you'd like to upgrade the ram/cpu." The original dual1ghz/1024MB RAM server was still listed on their website as available today up until a couple of hours ago. I emailed them telling them there is a problem because this isn't the server I ordered. No response yet. Is this one worth reasoning out or is it a good idea to just jump to Candid? |
Totally worth reasoning out, sounds like a breakdown in communication that an apology might solve.

I love bluegravity. The owner (thomas) can be a little hard to get along with sometimes but I still won't ever leave bluegravity. Been there about 2 years already and plan to stay until they either go closed or I die.

Actually the head cheese just e-mailed me and said he'd fix it up. I guess this place is worth hanging around. Candid is a bit cheaper but I don't think they can beat BlueGravity's uptime so I would certainly like to stay. |

Whoa. |
That's why I am so happy with bluegravity. I have had no significant downtime in 2 years and the support kicks ass.

got a link to their page?

Other companies might have quicker response time, but really, what's most important, having your sites always up and running fast, or a small communication breakdown that gets resolved within a day? I'll take Bluegravity everytime. I host all of my sites with them, since 98. Tommy and Tim are great guys. Stay with the BGC. |

The first company I was ever with was blueGravity.. They were great in all aspects EXCEPT for the fact that their prices are completely outrageous.. And by the looks of it they still are..
When I considered leaving them for someone who offered me hosting at 1/2 the price I got the whole story of 'yea but you won't get the service, you wont' get the uptime' .. Well guess what? I went to ESYR and got the same hosting(better server) for 1/2 the price.. And GUESS WHAT?!?! Service was JUST AS GOOD and the uptime was JUST AS GOOD.. And then I found another hosting company that offered me hosting for 1/2 the price that ESYR could and guess what? Service was the best in my life, had a little problems with uptime for a 2 week period but since then it has been as good as ever.. So 4-5 years later, I am with a company that is charging me about 400% less than Blue Grav, I get better service, and awesome uptime.. I am not here to spam who I am with now, I am not here to put down blue Grav's support or their Uptime. But they are committing highway robbery with those Prices.. The myth of the higher the charge the better the quality is bullshit.. You don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get great uptime and great service.. |

It's nothing to cry over, were your sites down for too long?
atlreast you didn't get something cheaper |
Whew, $400 per mbps. I would go seriously broke at those prices. Even worse if they're billing on 95th percentile.
|
I switched from BCG a while ago because of the prices and the fact that the support just wasn't there - it seemed like I got lost in the queue a few times. They were extremely tardy in processing my request to end the contract and it felt like they were just trying to string me along to get a extra couple of hundred bucks out of me. The hosts I am with now are all just as stable, just as fast if not faster, cheaper, and I can ICQ/email/ring them up and bitch and get a prompt reply.

they are pretty solid, but very expensive. I wish they would come down on their bandwidth prices a bit.

New reduced pricing, $2.5/gb? :eek2
They better be bullet proof. |
400$ per mbps wow thats crazy.. i pay 75$ per mbps thats on good bandwidth.. alexa.com and archive.org is hosted on them.

I have been with BGC for three years and have never had unexpected down time. If they are going to do something to the server they let you know in advance and then do it fast!!!
I agree that the prices are a little high, but they are great people. |
