Gay Boys/Girls in the U.S. Military

I was wondering if there are Gay Boys and Girls in the U.S. Military as there are in the Aussie Armed Forces.

I have many mates in the Aussie Military and I support them 100%. In the past it was hard for them but things have improved somewhat in recent years. Hope the same applies to our U.S. brothers and sisters

The US military has a "don't ask and don't tell" policy upon enlistment. The same policy applies after enlistment. The military will not allow practicing gays to remain in the military and in most cases will not allow a professed gay to remain in the military. In other words, if a gay keeps his mouth shut and is celibate they can serve in the military.

There are a few things you need to consider when talking about this subject......

- In the history of the armed forces, for a long time people were ashamed about being homo and afraid to "publically exposed". In order to risk blackmail attempts, these people would betray their government in order not to be publically exposed. This is why the US has a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. I'm sure the armed forces would love to ban gays from the service, but the reasons they have used in the past - "security risk" - doesn't exist any more.

- Life in the armed forces is a bit different than any thing else. These men - and women - have to sleep together in the same rooms. I could see where this is a huge problem - People who are straight aren't going to want to sleep with and shower with gays.

Otherwise, I have no problem with gays serving in our armed forces. Gay or not, as long as they, well, shoot straight is does't matter. Any gay person, male or female, can do the same job a straight person does.

Yes, and celibate. If you are exposed has being a practicing gay you will not be allowed to remain in the military.

It's ok to be gay in the army during a war though I think.

(Not sure if that means it's ok to screw around or just be out the closet though!!)

" shoot straight is doesn?t matter"
