I bought 5 or 6 names at namecheap for my personal use at the normal price -- but I got some good names I wanted in the beginning :2 cents: Don't feel so bad ...

added** I have been dumping some 'worthless' .com and other TLD names and replacing them with better brandable new gTLD names.

Barry-xlovecam 03-28-2017 06:39 PM

I bought in some other gTLDs at $5 +$5 privacy at name.com
I thought they were real good names.
Now I have to find what to develop for them or may try to flip the names -- small investment and limited risk.

My own personal thinking is: if a name brands and makes me money I am not going to worry about $30 or so to renew the name if I can generate good revenue. It's like a small branding royalty -- so long as the domain name cost is less than 1% of the gross and the name is SEO EMD or name branding ...

I have 1 that I bought at namecheap a couple of months ago. Tonight I bought 2 at uniregistry, who I know nothing about except they had free privacy and they gave me 4.88 in Topcoin which can apparently be used to get discounts on more purchases.

4.88$ on namecheap now :thumbsup

Barry-xlovecam 03-29-2017 04:42 AM

I guess they (namecheap) opted in.

These registrars don't want to agree to the top retail ($4.99) for the first year to get the radically reduced prices for new registrations from us. Some just want to widen their margins on sales ... Like herding cats sometimes

Barry-xlovecam 03-29-2017 05:39 AM

Here is an updated list of more registrars agreeing to the terms of the promotion as of today;

1. https://www.domaintechnik.at/
2. https://www.encirca.com
3. https://ovh.com (and many other regional sites)
4. https://101domain.com
5. https://domaindiscount24.com and https://rrpproxy.net plus many other sites in their reseller network
6. https://joker.com
7. https://epik.com
8. https://gandi.net
9. https://namelynx.com
10. https://uniregistry.com
11. https://namecheap.com
12. https://rebel.com
13. https://hexonet.com (will start April 1st)
14. https://dynadot.com (will start April 1st)

How much for the 3rd year renewal Barry?

xxx6live 03-30-2017 01:52 AM

I got fuc.cam and some more at namecheap. Still many short names waiting to be picked.

Barry-xlovecam 03-30-2017 04:14 AM

Relic; for now the 3rd year is at the same renewal price as the 2nd year.

The way this works is we, as a registry, set the wholesale price to the registrars.
The registrars mark-up the retail price of the domain names that they sell to the public.

We offered a special low price to the registrars on the condition that they sold our registry's domain names for $5 or less for the 1st year's registration. Only some accepted the deal as you can see.

At some point we may initiate a change to the renewal rate -- my thoughts are if you renew for longer periods maybe you would get a lowered price -- like for 3 or 5 years renewal in one transaction -- we will see ...

======
Glad you got a 3 letter domain name cheap xxx6live -- that is more for branding than EMD but if you develop a good site the visitors will have good name recall of your URL and its domain -- type-in city (hopefully).

sarettah 04-03-2017 05:37 PM

I am at 12 now :(

Barry-xlovecam 04-03-2017 05:45 PM

Renew 5 or more we are happy -- some will click and some won't -- same as any domain name.

We may be giving backlinks to .cam domains that start getting a bit of traction -- it is good for everyone I think. We are working on that idea now ...
