Which gaming console?

I want to buy a gaming console for my son, me and my hubby have no clue which is the best. Which do you guys think would be the best buy?

XBOX
Playstation 2
Sega Dreamcast
Nintendo gamecube

Dreamcast is a dead system.

GameCube is struggling with third party vendor support.

Xbox will one day dominate marketshare.

Playstation 2 has great exclusive releases (although prolly a little too mature).

Gotta figure out the games he likes to play.

He's 5yrs.old...We just bought him a gameboy advance SP for his birthday. He loves the games Warioland 4 and Super Mario advance 2. He's extremly good at them.

i'd say xBox as they got Microshit behind them

I would say the gamecube is what you are looking for. Has much more games for that age.
unless you want to play too :winkwink:

Seems he likes mario, the choice is clear.

I've got them all. 2 even of 2 of the ones you've listed.

Gamecube integrates with Gameboy Advance.

For instance, Pokemon games have extras that can be unlocked and shared between Gamecube and the Gameboy.

As a parent, you simply must pay attention to this site:

Gamecube comes bundled with a bunch of different options...check this out...

For 5 years old, go with Gamecube and get these games:

Super Smash Bros.
Disney Sports Soccer
Super Mario Sunshine
Mario Kart (coming soon)

absolutely gotta go with game cube for a 5y/o. Game cube owns teh younger market and the games are much more palatable to parents.

I bought my son the Playstation 2 Steph, and he loves it. I checked both systems out and think PS2 has an edge on the games available.

I would agree that for a 5 year old, GameCube will be the one to get. By the time he is older for the more mature games there will be next generation systems available so if he did want a Xbox or PS2 they could be picked up cheap...

ZoiNk 04-15-2003 12:58 PM

I voted PS2 before I saw the age. Yes, PS2 plays a lot of games that he will like, but if he is a mario fan, you should go gamecube. Nothing is quite the same as mario. :)
