Civilian casualties vs military casualties
 

It seems in most discussions that people think the Iraqi people will only see civilian casualties as a reason to hate America. However, the Iraqi soldiers that died (thousands) are all sons, fathers and brothers of other Iraqi people, and chances are that many of those people will hate America forever.

I even seen a family accepted apolgize from a marine who shot their family members because of a suicide bomber in a car that wouldn't stop, the marines even helped them bury their dead members

I've thought the same thing and there are LOTS of them.

Think about it ... All that means is that they hate the iraqi regime for putting them there to die. And they hate the americans for squashing them like bugs with 2000 lb bombs!

A strong independant Iraqi government might be able to prevent it from having severe consequences, at least, that's what I hope.

playa, are you now seriously trying to say that all the Iraqi people blame Saddam for everything? Because that's simply not the case. Not even for the ones that hated the old regime.

Most Iraqi's were and are against Saddam, yes, however many if not most were and are against America just as much, just like in most other Middle-Eastern countries. And, believe it or not, many do blame America for killing their sons/fathers/brothers/friends.

Many people in most Arab countries have hated the US for a long time, for meddling in middle eastern politics. (That's the main reason, there are many others, ranging from "Americans are arrogant" through "all Americans chew gum" to "Americans mispronounce our names") After this whole Afghanistan/Iraq/possibly Syria/God alone knows who else debacle, I think it's safe to say that MOST people in ALL Arab countries now hate the US.

I don't see the big difference if 7 out 10 Arabs hate me, or if 9 out of 10 Arabs hate me - the end result is I (a US citizen) am not well liked by the majority of Arabs
