Who's great in the dedicated server world these days?

mrmister 03-25-2017 09:44 PM

Same old folks are still great: isprime.com, mojohost.com, techiemedia.net, nationalnet.com, even oxeo.com. Get a quote from them all.

The vast majority of our clients host at Mechbunny Tube Site Hosting | M3SERVER.com or reflected.net at this point

j3rkules 03-26-2017 11:22 AM

You may use guys from 247host. I own several tube sites and host them on their servers. I can totally recommend their service, very fast support and great prices, check out my signature for a discount. I wish you a good luck.

TheDynasty 03-26-2017 11:51 AM

a lot of good companies right now

1215 03-26-2017 01:23 PM

Reached out to Mojo and M3.

Let's see how it goes.

Jigster715 03-27-2017 03:02 AM

pricey for what they charge, since they just resell ovh, the 325$ a month (USD), im paying works out to 157$ usd, only mine has 128gb of memory instead of 64gb memory. and they only promise 250mbps, i have 500, plus 256 ips allowed, instead of 128 with vacares, would be cheaper to buy a server directly from ovh, and hire someone to admin it.

https://www.ovh.com/ca/en/dedicated-...ise/153sp1.xml

this is what you pay 350 a month for (that link is in cdn)

If its 250mbits they are probably reselling soyoustart.com not ovh (although same company)

still robbery for what they charge vs what it costs going to the source, plus the dedicated server support is lacking serverly, dont know if its the knowledge of the admins or what, but compared to mojo host they are in a different class.

Sly 03-27-2017 12:23 PM

LOL.

You guys should talk more about things you know about instead of grasping at straws.

fris, we have not had one client move away since starting for price or service. No clue where you are getting your information but you are not a client, have never been a client, and have never submitted a support ticket. If 1 of your clients is a client of mine and they are unhappy, they are free to let me know and I will handle them personally.

Brad Mitchell 03-27-2017 12:28 PM

Why can't everyone just get along... There are lots of happy customers at M3Server and VACares. Advanced managed support, service monitoring and regular backups all have value. Anyone offering these services will of course be more expensive than a bare bones server.

And what does Mojo charge so we can compare apples to apples?

Heck, why not just start a server company then you can get servers even cheaper!

im just saying you could save money by getting the server right from the source which i did, but i manage my own stuff, but hiring an admin per month, prob save around 150-200 a month with vacares

for the amount you charge you would think support replies would be quicker, and the admins would be more knowledgable, just saying.

was working on a site that used vacares and the support was horrible, esp response times.

very frustrating when you have to wait a long time for a ticket esp when you are paying for the services.

offtopic - hey @arock10 - how've you been!? Where's the cfus crowd these days?

gnawledge 03-27-2017 03:38 PM

I'm a cheap bastard and did my OVH instead of getting recommended hosting for scripts like Mechbunny. In the long run if you aren't semi decent with managing your own server, then just do yourself a favor and listen to some of these guys when it comes to hosting. It'll save you a headache in the long run.

beemk 03-27-2017 07:15 PM

It's also cheaper to buy groceries in a grocery store and make your own food. That does not mean it's a waste of money to eat in a restaurant. If someone is interested in managing servers and cares about saving $100 it's a great option.

shiraz9944 03-27-2017 07:26 PM

real serious traffic that is important? Mojo is great, netelligent is good, M3 is good, wiredtree which just got bought by liquidweb, which I think is the best in the world. OH shit and I forgot the best that I know of the big media buyers use AWS from amazon, spin up a new instance in no time.

Brad

That's what it really comes down to - the support, the backups, and the monitoring. I grabbed servers from soyoustart/ovh and self-manage, and I'm competent in that area but I did have to sort out my own backups (cheapest was to actually get another cheap server from them and use rsnapshot). They have some rudimentary monitoring as well at the host's control panel. Since I'm doing my own support my response time is immediate and I never have to wait stressing out, and I know i'll always accomplish what I actually want the first time around.

I work with alot of hosts, and I know exactly who has fast response times and who has competent techs. Mojo has pretty fast, knowledgeable staff. Reflected is great as well especially with matters of security (and their cloud storage takes the whole headache of scaling off your head), and M3Server is also very good. There are some other (popular) hosts in adult that I won't name but sometimes require 5-10 emails back and forth to even get a working ftp account.

Someone mentioned AWS. It's about the most expensive possible way to run a tube site due to their ridiculous pricing for storage and bandwidth. A site pushing 1gbit would run about 10x more on AWS to run then via traditional servers.
