I once wrote a page for newbies about how to get started making some initial money from free sites, and what to do with it to eventually make enough to be in a position to quit whatever job it is they might have. The most common comment I kept getting was "It's too much to read, can you tell me the condensed version?"


Quite interesting, since I see that very same comment on a lot of discussion threads... on ALL the webmaster boards, and not always from newbies. Everyone wants the fast-track, the easier way, the lazy way to success. Only a rare few are prepared to pay the price to get it.

Im sure it's the lure of the industry that attracts the wrong sort of mentality the easy dollar the gangster bullshit but none of these people are really prepared to work they all say they are but when it comes to results we can see otherwise.
Im sure some of us have tryed to teach the odd newbie how to do shit and they just cant understand what keeps going wrong when mostly its very simple you must finish what you start and do it properly.

This entire "be good to newbies" thing started when affiliate proggies started. Before then newbies were ignored by most people. Newbies are sacrosanct because newbie sponsors think they're valuable. The truth is that newbies waste 95% of your support resources while generating 5% of your revenue. Best weed them out until they learn.

That's one reason I don't advertise my proggies here.

Another thing about newbies: they have no loyalty. I've taught a few people how to webmaster, and every one of them pushes products that compete with me. Fuckers. (They sell my products, too, and they give me great feedback on my competition, so not a total waste.)

Newbies often simply don't know what to do. Sometimes they think they know what to do, which can be worse.

I spend some time here helping newbies. Why? I dunno. I'd like too say that every once in a while one of them amounts to something, then we can "do business," but the truth is that never happens. The only ones that make it are the ones I teach in person. (Or maybe the online ones are lost to the ether so I never hear of their successes?)

Any industry where a guy like me can join and ramp up to a decent salary in 6 months when I do not know what TR is versus TD is way to wide open and is always going to attract newbies. I brought some money to the table so it was lots easier for me but still hard work is rewarded in this field.
