Tump--Destroying The American Dream

For one California farmer growing grapes the cost of Trump's immigration policy -- build that wall -- has resulted in less and less available American farm workers. Even at $14.50 an hour there are no legal workers willing to fill these jobs.

Wages rise on California farms. Americans still don?t want the job - Los Angeles Times
Quote:

Last year he could barely get together 45 laborers, and his grapes sold for only $350 per ton. Klein knew his vines were done for when California passed laws raising the minimum wage to $15 by 2023 and requiring overtime for field laborers.

?There?s not enough guys, and everybody is fighting for everybody else?s guys,? he says. ?In Napa and Sonoma, they?re getting $2,000 a ton [for grapes]. So, those guys can afford to pay $15. For me, I?m just trying to break even.?

California farmers can?t find enough laborers

Although Trump earned Klein?s vote, he worries that recent executive orders ratcheting up deportation plans and calling for a wall are putting a chokehold on an already tight pool of workers.

?That?s killing our labor force,? says the 35-year-old grower.

Trump freeze on H-1B visa's is the nail in the coffin.

Amazing how cheap these farmers are forced to sell their crops for.

California has always been a shining example of economic and fiscal success. Thats why they've been bankrupt for years, why the movie industry has moved out and why business and entrepreneurs have been in a massive exodus for decades.

The current immigration system simply needs to be fully enforced and the farm labor shortages will no longer be a problem.

The system allows mexicans in to work farm jobs and then they are supposed to go back at the end of the growing season.

The fix is simple: End their motive for staying. Make it clear that anchor babies aren't going to be such an anchor anymore and that no illegals will ever qualify for any kind of welfare. Then we will have a true worker program that we can trust.

But, but, but ... he voted for Trump so how can this be?

i wonder how hard these employers are looking for labor, when they cant find an american at 14.50 & so many people not even looking for work...maybe if unemployment benefits weren't paying even more than 14.50, people would be motivated to get off the free check. hmm?

not to mention how the state pushing the minimum wage up is to blame for his going broke. lets bend up some facts to make trump the problem.

Trump put a freeze on expedited H-2A visas for migrant agricultural workers and even though current migrants can stay for 3 years, only a little over 150k H-2A's are issued each year large numbers of legal migrants are fleeing the states due to the current political climate.
