cooking fresh lobster

Just bought a few fresh lobsters about an hour ago *alive*.
We got home and stuck them in the sink to keep them alive *in the sink for about 45 minutes *. Now they seem to be dead!

What I'm wondering is is it okay to still eat him if he's dead? I heard that unless he's alive when you boil him you can be poisoned...any truth to this?

Yeah, if they die before boiling, thats not a really good sign

http://www.livelob.com/cook.html

"PLEASE... DON'T PUT YOUR LOBSTER GRAM LIVE LOBSTERS IN TAP WATER PRIOR TO COOKING. This will literally drown them and make them very unhappy and dead."

http://www.allrecipes.com/encyc/terms/l/7268.asp
"bacteria form quickly in a dead lobster"

http://www.aroundpei.ca/AZ/section/1,9452,'15-3-1303',00.html
"Caution: if your lobster has been packed in plastic bags make sure there are holes in the bag and remove them ASAP. It is not a good idea to buy the lobster and leave them in a hot car while you finish the shopping! Dead lobster should not be used. Never submerge your live lobster in fresh tap water this will kill the lobster. "

Took all of 3 minutes to research.

just out of curiosity, why did you think that putting salt water lobsters in fresh water would keep them alive?

PersianKitty 04-13-2003 03:38 PM

If you haven't already, take it out of the sink and let it warm up a bit. See if he 'comes back to life'.

Shit I buy' em dead in the store all the time, cook the cock sucker and eat it.:thumbsup

stanton 04-13-2003 03:53 PM

well if they recently died
u can cook em

boiling water will kill all the bacteria

PersianKitty 04-13-2003 03:54 PM

I rarely bother with the whole lobster. Tails are alot easier.

RedShoe 04-13-2003 03:58 PM

I highly doubt cold tap water would put a lobster to sleep seeing as they are harvested in MAINE!!

BrutalMaster 04-13-2003 04:01 PM

You can cook them and eat them if you do it relatively shortly after they died.

In the future, just put them in the bag in the refrigerator, not the sink. Leave the bag open so they can breath.

Incidentally, boiling water does NOT kill all the potentially bad stuff.
