cleaning glass pipes
 

I'm trying to clean my water pipe... (bubbler) I let it sit in rubbing alcohol and salt and it got clean, but not spotless, what should I use to make it perfect? Thanks.

I've always thought that was the best solution.

Anyone know how long its supposed to sit in the rubbing alcohol and salt? This is a bubbler with heavy usage and no cleaning for the past 4 months... Sitting it in the rubbing alcohol and salt did a great job, there is just still stuff up in the pipe...

Use little devices to reach the crivices such as q-tips dipped in rubbing alcahol and such. Also, headshops sell a lot of pipe cleaning stuff, from regular use to super strong stuff. Haven't used either, so don't look at me :)

i use this method and my glass is pristine all the time.

throw a drop of vinegar in the mix, might help break down that extra stuff.

You dont understand man, its impossible to use a Q-tip or anything to reach the crevices on this thing :) I'll try Vinegar next time I clean it..... I'll also start cleaning it every time I smoke :)

dood the best best BEST... is go to an autoparts store.... but a 7 dollar gallon of Castrol Super Clean... it's in a big purple bottle..... trust me dood..... I blow glass.... I sell glass..... and I smoke out of glass...... you will thank me for this one...... and for anybody who reads this.... use castrol super clean..... it's the same stuff as the 50 dollar purple power in the head shops only you get a gallon for 7 bucks.... put it in about half cup... then hott water as well and it will clean your shit back to shelf quality... also... no waterspots

if it don't come clean with super clean, it don't come clean.

Before you clean it... heat the pipe and scrape as much of the resin out as you can.

You can make good money with it by selling it to highschool kids, telling them it's Hash.

You guys dont understand, look up some pics of a bubbler.. you cant scrape shit out of it, the inside is completly enclosed... holding the carb and shaking the rubbing alcohol around furiously has worked halfway decently, but not good enough. Still some traces of it..

Whats the best way to heat the thing up without ruining it?

my friend just had a double bowl big sherlock bubbler custom blown for him. killer double bowl with blown glass tubes connecting so the load is double cooled. the piece you suck is also custom really wide with a narrow hole causing the smoke to condense, and hit you harder... yeah...

how long have you soaked it? how long has it been building up? i smoke out of so many pieces there is no resin build up or nothing man, if its like black tar build up and shit, no clue, you shouldnt even let em get that way hahaha

i get em clean, i keep ema clean.

alcohol, vinegar, and salt, been doing it for years.

Geez is a little rez gonna kill you, why do you need your glass pipes to be totally spotless?

I've read the bong cleaning thread, I was wondering about mine though, because i've soaked it and rinsed it in rubbing alcohol and salt 3 seperate times, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 30 minutes, I just heated it up and shook the water around in it, got a little bit of shit out, but not much. Its black tar buildup, yeah its been building up for 4 months.

Acetone and salt, or HCl, remove the rubber seals first though and rinse thoroughly with boiling H20 before use.

place bubbler in a pot, cover with water. put it on the stove and wait until the water starts to boil. remove the pipe and rinse with hot water. the resin will be lose and should come right out after boiling.

You want to get it REALLY clean? Place it in a ceramic basin filled with lye, and boil the lye. You can do this over fire, but better is to take a positive and negative power cable (like from a car) and drop them in the basin at opposite ends, and remove them after it boils for 15 minutes.

When you remove the pipe it will be so clean you'll think it's new.

I've used this technique on forged iron with 200 years of rust accumulation. It fucking works.

I've boiled it and microwaved it.. it was cool when smoke started pouring out of it in the microwave :)

I'm gonna resoak it in rubbing alcohol with more salt this time, after its been microwaved, see if that helps.

Heating solvents (eg alcohols) in a microwave is a good way to blow up your kitchen.

im pretty sure microwaving doesnt do a damn thing.

since its basically cooking from the inside out.

I didnt put any alcohol in the microwave, i didnt think anyone suggested that. I'll try it now :)
