House passes legislation to block gun lawsuits

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- The GOP-controlled House on Wednesday passed legislation to protect the firearm industry from lawsuits that allege links between gun marketing and street violence.

House Republicans said the industry is being attacked through frivolous suits blaming gun manufacturers and dealers for violence by criminals. The suits could end the American gun industry by making companies spend millions in court, said the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wisconsin.

"Those who are filing lawsuits against the firearm industry are doing so because they want to bankrupt the industry," he said.

The legislation, which passed the House by a 285-140 vote, "would help prevent abuse of the legal system and help curb the growing problem of frivolous lawsuits in the United States," the White House said in a statement. "At the same time, the legislation would carefully preserve the right of individuals to have their day in court with civil liability actions."

Twice.. both old news tho. One they even tried to get to the Supreme court after their appeals were denied.

Doing something right? Guys think of this shit. They don't trust the law system to deal with law suits so they prevent them in the first place to protect their rich buddies. So basically for the government courts are only good as long as it suits them or the people who payed to get them elected.

That's a load. These lawsuits have about as much merit as someone suing a car company because they killed someone driving drunk.

You can now get sued for selling hamburgers, cigarettes, porn or microwave ovens which are not suitable for drying cats, but when you sell guns all is fine and dandy. Yeah, whatever.

Well, this is a step in the right direction. Sets a precedent for other frivolous cases, like those you just mentioned.
