How much does it cost?
How much would it cost to build an affiliate program site? I see some really nice ones out there and I was just wondering how much money to pour in just to make it sweet looking?
examples are: silvercash, icecubecash(orwhatever) basicly most major ones are looking great, if you could just post a little feedback on how much money went into it, including scripts and all that...... Thanx, Cheers! |

Hey Kaz could you change your name or something?
A lot of people know me as Kaz off GFY & it sort of bugs me that I might be mistaken as you. |

Most third party billing companies offer "affiliate program" plugins for their clients. If you're willing to settle for that model, all you need is a site to promote, and a few banners. A rock bottom estimate would be about $1K +/- depending on how much of the work you can do yourself. Assuming you don't want to settle and want a serious affiliate program you've got a lot of work ahead of you. You're going to need sites (several) and the associated promotional material. So you're going to probably need a full time designer or two. Next you're going to need the tracking system. Figure atleast one programmer long term (and possibly several to build the initial code). Then you're probably going to need a sysadmin/webmaster type (or one of each) to keep your sites up and running smoothly. Add to this an affiliate relations manager to recruit affiliates and answer their questions. While you're at it you'd better get an accountant, although you might be able to get away with a part time one. It would also be adviseable to have a lawyer around (you almost definitely don't need one full time). You might also need someone to find/produce content for the sites. Since you've now got a staff of 5-10 people, you're going to need office space and you're new found staff is probably going to want benefits. Then figure on the fact that you won't be ready to open for 2-6 months and it will probably take a year until you're profitable. Don't forget to keep a stash of cash on hand in case your billing companies screw up. Finally you're ready to start sponsoring a few parties and buying ad space on webmaster boards. Do I need to go on? In other words, if you want something serious the costs add up quickly. |
hey netrodent you forgot a few things.
Like server and connection. Dont even think of doing something like that on virtual. They would take all you cash and still bill you for the bandwidth!!! I would think that now days you could probably get set up for somewhere around a million or so... :thumbsup |

I didn't see Netrodent's post but he has some valid points.
As for the programming/design part, we can cover the full range. 4 Engineers (not hobby programmers) and 2 junior programmers, 2 designers, 1 junior designer, 1 drawing artist, 3 PC operators and this is when services like Adult Worker come handy, you don't need extra space, benefits or anything, you pay for the work and that's it. But you'd need an SysAdmin and your own server to say the least. Accountants can be out of office, but you'd need administrative people and also sales/marketing persons, not to mention somebody who cleans! :) Anyway, if you want to go on with this, you'll need some real cash. But it's not as much as they will tell you :winkwink: |
