Windows Update not working? Wtf!!

Anyone had this happen to them?

You get to the Windows Update site, and it hangs on the screen that says "Windows update is looking for available updates...0% complete"
It is a Win 98SE notebook straight to the net, no firewall or nothing. It has been on that screen for about 45 minutes now, at 0%. Surfing works, FTP, E-mail etc. It hasn't been updated for a year, so I know it needs patches.

I tried that. Rebooted, release/renew ip, no firewall on...straight out to the net. Our other computers worked fine through the same ISP, ip blocks updating them.

I had this same problem about a year ago.

Open IE
Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings, Make Sure All The Boxes Are Unchecked.

Hope this helps :)

2 most common things are:

1 - The BIOS time is set wrong

2 - The "Automatic Updates" service isent running
You can start it under 2services" or go to a command prompt and type; net start wuauserv

I only have 3 words of advice for you:

Buy a Mac

It sucks the random problems that people have with Microsuck Windows and you would be doing yourself a favor by dropping them and their shitty software as much as you can.

I had this problem before, it was my proxy server, try another proxy or change the settings if you use one.
