All of my serious work, I do on my desktop G4. I had an iBook a while ago, for little things while I was on the move. I also used it for my studies, other text stuff, and chatting online/email. Being able to leave the desk was nice. But my poor laptop died and went to heaven, so no more.

AdultNex 04-08-2003 04:11 PM

Desktop.

In about a few years when WiFi takes off... I'll be getting a Centrino soon. :winkwink:

I use my laptop with wireless highspeed and kick it on the couch and watch the bigscreen when I work.

Don't know how I ever sat at a desk for so many years :)

I have a high speed wireless network set up in my house too! It's the only way to go. I can get a lot of work done without hiding from my family now. Serious design work and site building is still done on the desktop though.

I do need to get a mouse to use with my laptop though...this touchpad gets annoying :winkwink:

Tanker 04-08-2003 04:29 PM

Right now all I have is a laptop

I use it to do all my sales a marketing.

I prefer to do web editing and design on a desk top
but at the moment I dont have one so I use the laptop

I have it on a wireless network and can take it outside or nextdoor to the neighbors house if I want its pretty sweet

and when I need to travel which I do a lot of I just throw it in my backpack and it goes with me so I am never too far from it

In what ways are laptops better, besides it's mobility?

It's much easier to slap the screen down when mommy comes in the room so she doesn't see the double anal fisting on the screen.

In a few years? My first iBook, which I bought in 1999, had AirPort built-in. I run all of our computers on an AirPort network.

I love how Intel can come to something four years late, and try to make it look like they invented it. "Centrino" my ass.

An Amiga?

stfuvt 04-09-2003 01:31 AM

what about the laptop upgrade ,support or if damaged?I`ve heard it is expensive and you should wait one week till you send it to the company producing it and waiting to come back what is your experience?

smack 04-09-2003 01:34 AM

i had a laptop for a long time as my only computer. i would advise against it, they tend to get a little beat on if you take them places. and sometimes the architechture seems a little weak. my desktop runs for weeks at a time like a champ though :thumbsup

jpoker 04-09-2003 01:57 AM

adamneve 04-09-2003 02:01 AM

True.

Thing is with the Centrino is that you can't upgrade to a higher standard. You have to purchase a new laptop to do so. :BangBang:

Hot stuff!

angeleyes 04-09-2003 02:56 PM

I'm looking for a Toshiba or Apple Notebook WITH A J-MOUSE (no touch pads)... used is fine as long as it's current with software, HD size, etc.

Hit me up on ICQ if you have one you're willing to sell at a decent price.

Mr.Teen 04-09-2003 03:03 PM

My toshiba next to me is getting slower by the day, what kind of toshiba do you have (if you have one)?

Ketadream 04-09-2003 09:24 PM

I use an alienware a-51 laptop...

Best computer purchase I've ever made.

I needed some VERY strong specs and this is the only thing on the market that met them.

(I also do live stage recording so it had to stand up to the lights and heat of a stage)

I got one my wife uses it they run way too hot. I had to get a laptop cooler for it.

Brujah 04-09-2003 09:51 PM

I have two and both run very hot. It's ok to use for an hour I guess but any lengthy periods just seem like it's going to melt the drives.

I use the laptop, not that I do anymore design work.. What's better about the Intel is that you can duel boot into windows/linux/unix(freebsd).. Apple has a unix term since its based on freebsd.. but it has some major variations.

Other then that, I love it.. 1600x1200 ultra vga screen blows me away every time. And San Francisco has wireless dsl in most places so you can connect from almost anywhere.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet... don't you guys using laptops get a sore neck, since you're always looking downwards?

candyflip 04-14-2003 09:57 AM

I've got an old G3 Powerbook. It's running OSX with a small HD, so it's bascially an on the road Internet Machine, that cost $3200 at one point.

foe 04-14-2003 09:58 AM

I use a laptop for contacts and viewsing sites, and a comp for coding
