Self-driving Uber cars hit San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO --
Starting Wednesday, you can order an Uber that can drive itself. The San Francisco-based company is putting the self-driving cars on the road.

Cars are being held in a very non-descript warehouse on Harrison Street. There isn't a sign but witnesses have seen the cars coming in and out of the warehouse.

CNET is also reporting that this is where they are housing the self-driving Volvos and Ford sedans.

They're launching Wednesday in San Francisco but are already on the roads in Pittsburgh, where they launched in September.

Now in San Francisco, they are deploying a handful of Volvos. They have sensors and will be able to steer, accelerate and brake and even change lanes. They will have a person in the driver seat, ready to take over if needed.

Uber says it doesn't plan to phase out drivers anytime soon and one driver told CNET that Uber told drivers there would only be about 100 of these so he isn't worried about his job.

the stressful work as a sigwhore is showing in your posts, brasshat.

You forgot to paste the link to the article.

But this can happen to the best of sig whores, it's such a complex job, so I understand it's sometimes too hard to hit that ctrl+v dogg.

just like when they started using bots to build cars! instead of paying someone 30 bucks an hour and dealing with the union. the bot builds cars 24hrs a day no sleep no pay just fixing here and there.

The problem with self-driving cars isn't the car, its that it obeys the traffic laws but human drivers dont, so it gets in accidents.

Same thing their doing with the semi trucks their testing. Maybe safer since I continually see people eating, holding a phone, putting on makeup, etc... If the driver is just backup can do all those things and even get blown by a passenger while it drives ya. :winkwink:

i can see way to many accidents that are just waiting to happen...

If the driver still sits there as backup then probably safer. Hell in my twenties there are times I don't remember driving home so the car driving itself would have helped. :winkwink: Think the accidents would come from someone hacking the control system and directing the cars into crowds of people. :helpme
