90% of websites violating anti-discrimination laws?

I thought this was an interesting article...

http://www.vnunet.com/News/1139983

It's occurred to me before that people with disabilities are generally SOL, but I never thought companies could or would be sued for it.

What kind of "design or technical barriers" would pose cause for a lawsuit or even be considered discrimination:

Blind People: don't surf the net.

People unable to walk: A website doesn't discriminate against them.

People unable to type: This is not a webmasters fault.

People not smart enough to navigate around a site: This is not a webmasters fault.

Obese People: A website doesn't discriminate against them.

...I'm not being sarcastic... I am just wondering if someone can give me an example. I understand that for example a KKK site or an "anti-cracker"site would be offensive but it's sort of like TV---IF you don't like it, change the channel or turn the TV off.

I've got ADD and the web makes it really hard for me to pay attention. Who can I sue?

So do I, let's make it a class action lawsuit.

Blind people do surf the net. They use a special browser that reads aloud the words on a site. However, last time I checked into it (about 2 years ago) those programs couldnt read frames.

Of course, we are porn, we cant offer "text only" sites. Unless its a story site, in which case, I would love to see their marketing strategy!

Angeleyes,

Blind people do surf. I was a tech support flunky at an ISP for a while and we had a couple of blind customers. It was absolute hell trying to talk them through internet setup on the phone, but they can do it. They have programs that read whatever text the mouse hovers over and other stuff to help them navigate. My understanding is that if the html is not written to certain standards it hampers the operation of some programs.

Here's a link: http://karn.ohiolink.edu/philosophy/..._friendly.html

I suppose it would be more accurate to say the blind don't surf for porn. :)

I guess we should start offering audio versions of our sites for the blind.

audiosex.com ;)

LOL

Seriously though, it's bs. The whole internet needs to be adapted to the needs of a small minority or else it's discrimination? Can you say Politically Correct?

omg fuck that.
