Do you ever type in domain name ?
A discussion about recent 6 figure sale of adult domain name and some claims how that domain made a lot of money just on type in traffic, made me wonder, do you ever type in any domain name directly to browser? As i cant remember did i ever did that unless it was some competitor research site and something similar. Plus, we live in era where people google for everything, even typing domain.com into google instead browser, which make me believe how any valuation based on type in traffic would be utterly bad.

Rarely ever. I guess the only time might be if I was reading an article and they mentioned a site but it didn't have a clickable link.
|
Often, when the names are branded and I know the exact name.
|
of course people do, how else do you get to sites? (assuming you don't have it bookmarked)
|
I do it a lot, I don't bookmark a lot of sites that I use daily.
|
Sometimes when I have to type something in, doing research, or for local things.
Somehow we should get the rest of the internet to type in more and rely less on search engines.. :upsidedow |
You wouldn't know by join date here, but been doing this for awhile..
Was in and out... Anyway back when, I never typed into a browser and thought people were crazy when I starting reading about registering domains to get type in traffic... I found out real quickly that they did, and big time... |

No, very rare I type out a full domain. I use my bookmarks or I will type the first letter into the address bar and it will autocomplete
Plus people hate typing on a phone/tablet, they use bookmarks and autocomplete |
i never type in a domain name as i cunt a4d a keyboard... :(
|
Try typing in;
sex.cam sex.com sex.net sex.org sex.cc into the address bar -- not the the search bar Branding matters I am going somewhere on the interwebs and not needing a search engine. Now try the same thing in the search bar; Content matters now. There is no silver bullet ... Fame is at some price. sex is a VERY highly competitive word. Content will always matter the most and then the domain TLD :2 cents: |
^^^^
domain is maybe in #10 spot of importance... just look at all the successful internet businesses, what percent use a premium domain name? how about you list a few successful businesses that use a premium domain name? I bet you for every one you list, I'll be able to list 5 that use worthless domain names... xlovecam is a perfect example, you created a successful business on a completely worthless domain name... if domain name is so important why didn't you follow your own advice and acquired some better domain name? |
The world has changed without you woj.
.com has a 20 year head start -- anyone should realize that. Why did Verisign take us into arbitration over the .cam domain string application? They lost :2 cents: .com means nothing in branding. You will do a lot better if you got with the program. If I was trying to do the same thing I did 10 years ago on the Internet I wouldn't be happy either. You can only spend the money you made one time :2 cents: |
Aren't you talking about 2 different things though?
You are asking if we type in domains that we know and want to go to (example gfy.com). And type in traffic in regards to big name domains (sex.com etc) is when people do not know the site, but type in sex.com just to see what is there. |
Chrome automatically completes any domain I type in - which is mostly YNOT, GFY, and Facebook. For Gmail I have a link on the bookmarks bar, and for most everything else I use bookmarks.

right click search google, and click.

I type in every time I wanna buy a domain to see what's currently on the site so I know if worth a shot of negotiating. Parked page, sales page or shitty development=yes Fully developed bad ass site=probably be more than I wanna spend. No matter where I point my domains for sale my own pages, bodis sales pages, uniregistry sales pages etc... that's where the most offers come from so think most type in what they wanna buy and when an offer page on it there's your offers. Sites I visit regularly all bookmarked. :2 cents:

You should also take into consideration that porn is a special case.
You and I have no problems bookmarking hundreds of porn websites, but many people try to hide their porn surfing habits. There are probably tens of millions of people typing in porn domain names every day, often in private browsing mode. |

hundreds ya say? :winkwink: |
Yes I do

If I want to go to youtube I either type in the name or use the link on a Google site I am using.
I would not randomly type in names for kicks. How hard is it to type in ebay.com or paypal.com? For that matter sex.cam if that was a branded name to me. If I am looking for a topic I use a search engine. Usually my query is 3 or more descriptive words so I don't get a lot of useless BS (search spam) -- but that is me -- I am hardly a typical Internet user. If I was a typical use I would be at Facebook using their search :upsidedow Don't underestimate the value of top-of-the-mind branding. I think this kind of branding is earned. It is the best but also the most difficult to achieve -- it has to be your goal however to really succeed -- look around you -- we cannot deny this. |
I always type in the domain, anybody making google rich by clicking on their adword ads when they already know where they want to go, is an ass

Was always the strangest thing to see referrals from google.com?q=mydomain.com
Because loading Google, typing in the domain, and clicking twice is much quicker than typing in mydomain.com <enter> ... |
