Using Paypal for affiliate payments
 

We all know PayPal has ceased processing transactions for adult material. But are you still allowed to use PayPal for affiliate payment for a program that is adult-related.

Reading their Acceptable Use Policy, "Mature Audience" section, it seems quite clear that the restriction is only on selling such material, not on affiliate schemes.

Has anyone had this clarified by PayPal?

How would they even know?

That's right, they wouldn't automatically know. But I don't want to send large volumes of cash through paypal, have them look into it, then freeze the account because its against their terms.

Thanks FNet, but I was asking about using it for affiliate payments, not card processing.

But since you bring it up, our system PayAsYouClick.com is a micropayment solution, and it has affiliate payment built in.

We're just trying to see if we can pay affiliates through paypal.

The question is.... why would you be willing to take that risk at all?

We wouldn't be interested if there was any risk. We've contacted paypal for clarification based on our specific circumstances, but nothing back yet. Just wondered if this had been straightened out already.

I understand your terms of service now prevent using paypal to take payments on websites for adult-related content.

However, suppose I have a website selling adult content. I use an alternative credit card processor to take money from surfers. Can I then use PayPal to distribute payments to my affiliates?

As long as you are not using PayPal to sell a product that goes against our User Agreement you will not be breaking any rules.
