I'm watching BBC live.

Their reporter in Baghdad says he has no knowledge of it. He is standing in the middle of the city and cannot see or hear anything. He is saying it's all quiet.

cherrylula 04-05-2003 12:24 AM

you should have imbed.

markm287 04-05-2003 12:33 AM

You see the video Fox is showing from embed yesterday outside bagdad, burning vehicles everywhere. Looks like a fucking slaughter, gotta love american military power.

theking 04-05-2003 12:33 AM

CENCOM just verified that elements of the 5th Corp are in the center of Baghdad. It is not a scouting or probing operation but according to a CENCOM spokesman they are there to stay.

""We're not softening them up," Lt. Gen. T. Michael Moseley said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press from his base in Saudi Arabia. "We're destroying them."

To borrow a quote from another post.

It is being reported that two Republican Guard Brigades have been ordered into the center of Baghdad to confront the 5th Corp forces that are also in the center of Baghdad. This report is not verified.

Paul Markham 04-05-2003 01:25 AM

The BBC have a camera on the top of a hotle in central Baghdad, nothing going on except noraml traffic.

I think this is a bit premature news the US propaganda machine puts out.

They did say they were takeing the airport 24 hours before they got there.

CENCOM has already verified the news report about elements of the 5th Corp being in the center/downtown Baghdad.

I'll say one thing, those guys all deserve medals for courage. That takes major balls to go smack into the middle of the enemie's main fortified city.

Wow. . . . . Now this is called kicking serious ass!

Fortified city? It's probably not much more fortified than Cleveland is fortified.

As are the Aussies. Both are well trained and disciplined fighters.

Just seen on BBC that there is now fighting close to the centre. The reporter can hear the battle and it looks like something is happening.

Come on over and see. Make sure to come through east 100's and Buckeye or the area outside University Circle for maximum effect.

Seriously, though, that's kind of silly. Saddam loves Baghdad. He knew we were coming. I am sure the city is well fortified. As much as it is possible to do for a city that size, anyway.

The Iraqi Minister of Information who the media has named "Baghdad Bob" is reporting on Iraq TV as I am typing that Iraqi forces are defeating "the American Mercenaries" on all fronts. He is saying this as we have tanks roaming around downtown Baghdad. I was kind of hoping to see a tank crash through the wall of the building he is broadcasting from.

theking 04-05-2003 03:15 AM

The fucking media pisses me off. They were just displaying on the screen the "Siege of Baghdad". We are not laying siege to Baghdad. We had three options available to us.

#1. Lay siege. To lay siege is to surround the city and let it wither or the vine. This was always an unacceptable choice for multiple reasons.

#2. To flatten the city with airpower and this too is an unacceptable choice for multiple reasons.

#3. Take the city and this is what we are currently in the process of doing.

We have yet to encounter a major battle and I am beginning to believe that we will take military control of the country without encountering a major battle.

I stated long before this war began that the Iraq military was ill led, ill trained, ill armed and that it would basically be a cake walk for our forces and up to this point in time this is proving to be the case.

theking 04-05-2003 03:41 AM

It is being reported that the 101st Airborne has finished dealing with Najaf and they are now moving on to Baghdad.

American KIA's now listed as 75. Baghdad Bob, is still reporting that US forces are not inside Baghdad and Iraqi forces are in control of "Baghdad Airport".

It is being reported that Iraqi military vehicles are immersed with civilian vechicles that are fleeing Baghdad.

It is being reported that 24/7 aircover will be flying over Baghdad to protect our forces inside Baghdad and to strike targets of opportunity.

For the first time it is being reported that there are over 10,000 Special Operation Forces operating in Iraq. This number has not be verified by CENCOM.
