well besides the nintendo staples (zelda, matroid prime, mario cart, sms) there isn't really anything new thats not going to be on the other systems...but with that being said, the nintendo exclusives are the only reason I bought the console

Are you sure youre not thinking of the Dreamcast? Given, the PS2 and Xbox are looking stronger as far as sales go, but i wouldnt go as far as to call dead any console where you can exclusively play games like Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, and Zelda: Wind Waker.

Definitely fun so far, although im not terribly far into the game. Only thing im pissed off about is that you cant play it in widescreen, so my tv stretches the picture to fill the screen. Other than that i say its a definite pick up.

Circuit City had a deal going on for the gamecube at only 129.99 + you get metroid or 1 of 3 other games for free. That is where I got mine - also bought the new Zelda game witch gets you a free game case ...

So overall check there first :winkwink:

hottoddy 04-04-2003 02:18 PM

I'm on the 5th island and just picked up the boomerang. Seriously cool game. It looks like there's several dozen islands to visit at least.

I bought the CG for Mario, Zelda & Metroid. A few other games (Rogue Squadron, Monkey Ball, Eternal Darkness) have been the icing on the cake.

:thumbsup Gamecube

Babaganoosh 04-04-2003 02:44 PM

Gamecube is far from dead. As soon as I get through Metroid Prime I will go get Zelda. I haven't played my PS2 in almost a week since getting Metroid.

Hahah .. yeah .. it keeps going and going .. just when you think you're near the end you realize that there are a ton of little puzzle type islands, and a few other fortress looking things .. lots of mysteries to solve.

Actually game cube is dead. Nintendo is not going to do much more to support it, they are instead going to focus on a new product to be released I think in 2004.

They realise they cannot compete with PS2 and X-Box so they figured they'd focus on something new that they believe will compete with the next generation of consoles.

Graphically speaking, I find GameCube to kick PS2's ass...
PS2 has more games that I like...but I dunno...graphics on the PS2 are more blurry etc..not as slick as on the GC...

one of the only reasons I want the gamecube is because of zelda...so as far as longevity I don't mind....

:1orglaugh Nintendo never made any statement regarding what you claim and in case you didn't know GC outsells XBox in pretty much every single country except America.

FYI Nintendo did make that statement...sorry I don't save every news clipping I come across.

SothArtist 04-04-2003 09:13 PM

I have a PsII and an Xbox. Xbox away any other console. cept in the amount of games. Which I still don't understand why Xbox hasn't done better with.

eroswebmaster 04-04-2003 09:14 PM

Here's one story regarding this:
http://www.gamemarketwatch.com/news/item.asp?nid=1106

Quote:

GameCube's Future Uncertain

Nintendo's president Hiroshi Yamauchi has done it again! On the Wednesday meeting of investors, Hiroshi Yamauchi made a shot and clear statement that puts the future of GameCube under a big question mark. According to AFX News, Hiroshi Yamauchi made the following statement:
"If we are unable to see a positive response at E3, this will have a disastrous impact on Nintendo... and we may have to consider freezing the GameCube business altogether."

However, Nintendo's president also emphasized his confidence on the success of GameCube presentation at the upcoming E3Expo in LA. After the recent announcement of GameCube's delay, E3 will definitely be a major indicator of things to come. Stay tuned for more information later this week.

Things may have changed since the cut the price and sales have improved...but anyway.

SothArtist 04-04-2003 09:15 PM

Man.. whats wrong with me...

Xbox blows away any other console. I still done understand why Xbox hasn't done better with sales and games.

Swiftone 04-04-2003 09:30 PM

rofl. You do realize that the so called 'article' you linked too was published BEFORE THE GAMECUBE EVER CAME OUT. AKA, they were saying if INTEREST SUCKED they would consider not releasing the console at all.

There has been absolutely no indiciation by Nintendo that they would stop supporting the Gamecube, and that is a fact. Anything to the contrary is misinterpritation or just total BS.

I'm telling you right now...whether you believe me or not I could care less.

Right before they dropped the price, in fact it was through this article I read that I learned they were dropping the price Nintendo stated they were going to no longer focus on the gamecube...that they already had plans on a console that would be realsed sometime in 2004-05 whenever.

No misinterpretation...no BS ( yeah I'm going around spouting off on boards about something so trivial as the gamecube just to BS)...once again sorry I did not save the article so I could make sure I could prove what I'm saying to some guy I've never met...never will meet and couldn't really care less to meet :)

Tokyo, Dec. 13 (Bloomberg) -- NEC Corp. is in talks with Nintendo Co. to develop a chip for Nintendo's next generation video-game console that will replace the GameCube and compete with Sony Corp.'s planned game machine, NEC officials said.
Getting closer :glugglug

hottoddy 04-04-2003 10:15 PM

Another dated & irrelevant link.

Of course Gamecube will stop being the focus of Nintendo in a few more years. It's about halfway through its lifecycle. Every console manufacturor must put out a new console every 5 years or perish.

For now, Gamecube is going strong. XBox is the only console doing poorly on the world-wide scene.

#1 It's not irrelevant. I stated what I had read...that they were focusing on a new system that would be competing with the next generation of consoles and was told I was bsing...

#2 Thanks for stating the obvious about how manufacturers need to release a new console every so many years to stay relevant in their market...btw did you know the sky is blue.

#3 It was only AFTER they dropped the price that gamecube started to make it's move passing XBox in sales.

Swiftone 04-04-2003 11:30 PM

Every console company is already working on their next gen system, that means nothing. They started work on the Gamecube while the N64 was still going strong.

There is no lack of first or third party support, you don't have any relevant information aside from the fact that they ARE developing a new console, which is common knowledge.

And you're point about the pricedrops being? XBox dropped it's price too, and magically sales increased, does that mean Microsoft is going to shelve the X-box?

You have absolutely no concrete arguement aside from personal opinion and heresy.
