What's this? Censorship? In Canada?!

This may be old. But I had to show you that "censorship" exists outside of the USA. This link is from another thread I posted earlier today, thanks to whoever posted it...

CBC lol goverment owned tv channel

ZoiNk 04-04-2003 11:04 AM

I agree with a few things in the article:

A) A hockey game commentator should not be spouting off political views while they are being paid to talk about hockey

B) The CBC is 100% government owned, and his view is against the government's position on the war, so he shouldn't be saying such things in a non-political forumn.

it's the fucking CBC. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, government sponsored and controlled channel. ahaha

Simon-interaid 04-04-2003 11:19 AM

The hell with Don Cherry.

His a cock sucker anyhow.

Send him off to suck some republican penis down in texas

thats gotta make him happy.
:1orglaugh

Jimmer 04-04-2003 12:01 PM

The government funds the CBC but it is at an armslength from the government. CBC is allowing Cherry to continue and do what he wan'ts.

The fact is 85% of the Canadians dont want Canada to go to war against IRAQ.

If Don Cherry wants to go to war he is more than welcome to go right ahead.

Sly_RJ 04-04-2003 12:24 PM

A government operated TV/news channel? Interesting.

Jay_StandAhead 04-04-2003 12:31 PM

When citizens of a country watch a channel that they all pay for, they don't like being called "jerks" and being told they are morons not to go to war.

This might explain why they took the video off the web... but that's stupid, they should leave the video on the website... it's pretty funny!

gigi 04-04-2003 02:49 PM

I have to back Don on his disgust for Montreal fans booing the US national anthem....that was just pathetic....and very very embarrassing for Canadians.

A few days later there was a game in Vancouver and the crowd cheered the US anthem....

This is hockey, not politics.....

As for the rest of Don's 'speech' that's his opinion and he's entitled to it...and it just so happens he has access to the media wherein he can express his opinions....is it right to comment on politics? Probably not, but hey...the war is a very touchy subject for everyone right now and people can get passionate....

Fact is you're another moron pulling fantasy percentages out of your over-opinionated ass.

According to recent polls by Ekos, an independant 3rd party, there are a much larger number of Canadians that support the US than what you would love to believe Simon-retard.

Quote:

The Ekos Research poll showed 41 per cent of Canadians are against an attack, while 40 per cent remain in favour. In Quebec, the support for joining in an American attack drops dramatically to only 23 per cent. In Alberta, that numbers shoots up to 57 per cent. Even more interesting: while more than half the country sees "the greatest threat" as being Saddam Hussein, another 38 per cent say George W. Bush is the one to worry about.
Fact is, if we removed Quebec from the poll altogether, the percentages would look a LOT like the USA's, which is about 70-30 in FAVOR of the war.

Try getting YOUR factual shit in order before flapping your beak buddy.

I didn't see it, but quite frankly, last I heard all these Quebec 'separatists' were more fans of the American government than of the Canadian government. I think it's Hockey related and not related to the anthem or the flag. Have you ever been to a Montreal vs Bruins game before there was any mention of a war? They'd boo from the minute the players got on the ice.

Neither got reprimanded because in my eyes...any publicity is good publicity for these guys. Wonder how many extra clicks they got through their website even though everyone knew the clip wasn't there.

As for the war - although I'd prefer a perfect world where there were no Saddams or Osamas threatening my childrens world as we knew it 2-3 years ago - now that there is one, we should be there right next to them - 1) because the US has been protecting us since we are virtually unprotected 2) any minor threat to the US is a serious threat to us - too bad these anti-war protesters don't see that.....or our Prime Minister for that matter.

I agree that the figure of 85% against the war is wrong. But your figures also are wrong. Nowhere I saw in your article that wiithout Quebec, the English Canada would be 70%...:

The biggest " for" percentage is 57% in the oil province....

As you say "Try getting YOUR factual shit in order before flapping your beak buddy. "

mmmh....

70-30 ?

lets do some math here:
quebec popu. 7 millions 23% = 1,6 millions
canada: 30 millions 40% = 12 millions
12-1,6= 10,4 millions for (30-7) 23 millions which equal = 45% for war instead of 40%

Here ya go :thumbsup

* The poll does not specify whether or not such an attack would be sanctioned by the UN.

which make all the difference!
