Would you Chargeback this Host?
So I told Host X that I want to cancel their services. I did this friday, last day of my invoice is today. The price is $200. The profit on this plan has been huge for this host. I took over the plan for a couple of months from previous server owner. The last invoice paid is over today. There have been no contracts Signed.
So now Host X says they have a policy that you need to give them 30 days notice. I can't delete my credit card from their admin. Am I in my right to chargeback if they do Indeed Charge me for the next 30 day invoice in which I wont be using their services? Do I have to worry about them sending my bill into collections? I know I did not give the most notice.. but even then I didn't know about their 30 day notice policy. |
At least it's not a 1 year cancellation notice like someone else.
Do you have all the sites off the server? I would just keep it for the 30 days then start your other server. If you have another server and made a couple months payments on this server then one more month ain't gonna kill you. So no, I wouldn't charge it back. |
Yeah I already moved everything.. just feels like a rip paying 200 for 5mbps plan on an ancient server.

Something like this has been discussed on here a few times. There are a lot of hosts with such policy.
Anyway I always pay via Paypal. |
We won't charge you $200 for promoting Dating Factory.. :upsidedow

Do not chargeback. If they have a 30 day termination policy, its in their terms of service. It sucks that you are paying for a host you are no longer using but then again it is the deal you made with them. What you could do is this: Keep using them anyway for the remaining 30 days since you're already paying for it, or if you really don't need it, call them and try to bargin your way out, or maybe ask if they will accept $100.00 or something. If you chargeback, and the TOS said 30 days, you are not only breaking the agreement but you are also committing potential fraud with the CC company and the merchant bank. |
Move to Cyberwurx.com They rock!

To the armchair attorneys recommending to "read what you sign", in the first post the OP states he acquired the server from someone else, presumably from buying the site/business.

chargebacked a $35,000 "hooker experience" in Spain. Won.

You are stuck with their current terms by estoppal. Making payment on any contract or agreement creates estoppal.
You performed on the contract and are bound by any lawful contract terms. You agreed to the terms by using their server faithfully making payment on the contract --didn't you? ** that's good, no harm is always the best policy |
Change the card to a prepaid card. Problem solved.

I've had most hosts be nice on the way out, usually waiving or discounting the final month. When I choose a host I tend to stay for years. |
We charge in advance of service but don't ask for 30 day notice on cancellation. It's nice to have but not a policy that we enforce. I think you should ask for the money and claim hardship and depending on their response decide on the chargeback.

Oops, I see you got out of it. That's good.
