National Prayer and Fasting Day

The House passed a resolution Thursday calling for a national day of humility, prayer and fasting in a time of war and terrorism.

The resolution, passed 346-49, says Americans should use the day of prayer "to seek guidance from God to achieve a greater understanding of our own failings and to learn how we can do better in our everyday activities, and to gain resolve in meeting the challenges that confront our nation."

Are you going to fast, pray and thank god ? How will you celebrate ?

-=HOAX=- 04-03-2003 04:04 PM

Well that depends....do we get the day off?

Sly_RJ 04-03-2003 04:05 PM

How many Democrats are in the House?

Sure, if I get the day off ~ but fasting/praying/humility don't mix well with work... well the first two at least.

gods, i *really* thought the title of this thread had the word "fisting" in it, not fasting..! no way in hell am i going to fast just because the government wants me to. i'll make a point to gorge myself the entire day, and act as arrogant as i can get away w/... fuck humility. who are they to dictate anything spiritual to citizens..?!?

Doesn't matter. It's just a Resolution.

The Senate needs to approve.

I still haven't figured out what the hell they're asking for. They want a specialized day? What a goofy ass resolution...

MegaPussy 04-03-2003 04:41 PM

Weird, I hadn't heard about this. Is it really the government's place to tell us when to pray/fast? And on that note should they really need to tell us we should do it? Very worrisome, and I'm not even much of a Libertarian.

What the hell is that they cannot Pass a resolution like that becuase you cannot force other people to beleive in a religion ...

The word God is offensive to some people

damn straight, unless they happen to be referring to me at the time it is uttered. whatever, not like any of us will be getting a day off regardless..!

Gutterboy 04-03-2003 05:00 PM

I'm surprised 49 of them had enough sense to oppose this nonsense. I wonder how many voted yea soley to avoid risking an abstention or no vote being used against them in their next campaign?

Brujah 04-03-2003 05:04 PM

Vote Republican!
Besides, some of you can afford to fast a little bit. It won't kill you.

they should go ahead and vote for a full 30-day fast and call it Ramadan so we can be like our newly converted Muslim 12clicks ;)

It's a good idea -- idealism is the only thing that will save this world from destruction... Bill Clinton gave a lecture at UF today and he essentially said this... our world is so interconnected now he said that the responsibility of our generation is unity... he closes his speech by saying we need to eliminate "us and them" -- this is idealistic stuff coming from a US President... I was amazed... some of the stuff he said almost made me cry. He's a genius.

Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat, and the lines on the map
moved from side to side
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
Up and down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
the poster bearer cried
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside

["I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"]

Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about
With, without
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind
For want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.

I could go for a National Day of "Fishing" that would be hella cool!

What a better way to bring America together than taking the day off to go fishing???

Because markets are global, and nukes are prevalent, governments have become like states in a union. Every war now is potentially a civil war for the global union.

It sounds like those knuckleheads want to bury the ENTIRE constitution. Next they'll go after the 1st Amendment. It's too bad we have to go this unstable just because a fucking building blew up.
