Anybody interested in a heated debate?

Theology, politics, philosophy, fishing, anything?

goBigtime 04-03-2003 12:36 PM

Jesus was half alien.

FATPad 04-03-2003 12:37 PM

I've poked people in the eye with fishing lures during fishing debates. Ripped the eyeballs right out of their sockets.

The best bait is crack cocaine. It's true. I saw it on TV.

PersianKitty 04-03-2003 12:39 PM

What's the best lure for trout (in rivers) this time of year?

Baiting the hook with crack wouldn't hurt though.

el_greco 04-03-2003 12:43 PM

I don't know if this qualifies for starting a heated debate but...

mmm...fishing...

There's nothing like the silence of a lake at dawn. My family goes up to Mammoth every year for like a week.

Though I've never been deep sea...anyone here have a story to tell?

eroswebmaster 04-03-2003 12:43 PM

No but I'm interested in a GFY shirt someone promised me ;)

If you say anything like that again I'm going to grab my Red Devil and rip your eyeballs out!

I agree. Flies are probably the best for rivers. You'd probably lose your bait, if the current was strong enough.

I'd have to agree that a roostertail, Pictured above, is a very good producer this and thoughout the year. As always presentation is key. Toss it up stream and bump it as it drifts back to you. Contrary to popular belief the blade doesn't need to turn for it to draw a strike.

In this early spring time I'd fish it deep and close to shore, to get at those waking lunkers hanging close to the bank's overhang or tree roots. Try and stay away from the faster current brought on by the spring melt as the food is somewhat scarce and the fish are conserving energy. Expect to lose alot of tackle as well.

If one is to judge a person, it should be on the nature of their character and not an accumulation of their actions.

Nymph's maybe but dry flies are going to be alot of work...the spring melt makes bouyance an issue...

I love to feel my rod wiggle

PersianKitty 04-03-2003 12:54 PM

maybe it's different up here. Sometimes the roostertails will work, but a krocodile spoon seems to work better this time of year.

Good advice. I haven't fished in forever, but my brothers crazy about fishing. I just remember a lot of stuff from growing up.

But yeah you want to throw your spinner/floater bait upstream and pull it down slowly.. if there is a current you pretty much want to just be reeling in the slack rather than dragging the bait/lure any closer to you - ie let the current bring it back.

But you can also do this with with bait. One good trick is to use a salmon egg hook and the lightest split shot (the crimp-on kind)
weight that will give you enough weight to throw it upstream a bit. Crimp it on about 18" away from the single egg, with the egg at the bottom.

You can catch a lot of trout like that. :)

I agree with this statement. But what gives you a true sense of someone's nature?

DO NOT tell me you fish too...I will stalk you!

That being said, I could see a spoon producing...Right now its all about flash and size. Alot of times in the early season I'll make sure to keep a large steelhead streamer available. The bigger the uglier the flashier the better...I'll fish it fast with a small splitshot and a water bubble working different depths till I hit the sweetspot...

It can be tough but I feel that not judging someone is the key...If I am an outside observer there is no way I can possibly be completely in they're shoes...then again my interaction with someone will determine my judgements...specific events that affect me found the basis of my judgements.

Are you sure they are crabs? You should check.. because if they are crawdads, those are good bait for nasty bottom feeding catfish.

I'm against live bait...I prefer to catch my fish with lures...'cept catfish...then I use chicken liver and beer.

Try plain super dupers or kastmasters... also good trout lures.

Bigger isn't always better. heheh Too much weight and it doesn't drag right with the current...I tend to stay with lighter stuff. Used a Thomas Bouyant some too.

Rictor 04-03-2003 01:06 PM

I prefer live bait fishing. Chicken liver for catfish. Worms, minnows, beemoth, crickets. No leeches.

Chicken liver for the cats & beer for the fishermen no doubt.

Thats how all the catfishing that I remember went. Loooooots of beer. Rarely a catfish, ALWAYS something making noise in the bushes.

Ocassionally someone re-enacting some scene in apocalypse now & wading around with a hunting knife in their mouths in the night cutting the fishing lines of the neighbor fishermen.

Most places up here have only designated areas for bait fishing if at all.

That's why I say the quicker retrieve...I agree with lighter tackle all the way, but its all about the instinct strike right now, my trout rod is a 5'6'' uglystick mini ultralight...I've taken 15 pound salmon on 5 pound test.

I recently crabbed dungeness in Pacifica I stick to fishheads, you can get them frozen and cheap at the local fishstores...ciopinno here I come...

To all the people bitching about clothes I'm working on it...realize that I do about one order a month and it consists of about 200 packages everytime...its a TON of work and just part of my duties here.

But I cannot make a trip to the post office for just a few packages at a time. Its inefficient.

Now back to fishing, the bass are going to hit prespawn soon...float tube and plastic worms all the way a baby!

There's also a striper derby coming up on the sac river...I can't wait!

Man I miss fishing...I yearn for the fishing...I think I'll make it a point to fish this whole weekend.

Ah yes...but those tender moments when someone's eye's dart to a jittering rod tip...silence crashes, the hook set, the fight and the anxious slight fear as someone hauls some freakish animal from the dark depths and into the pale light from a hissing lantern...

Haven't been big on bass fishing since I was a kid. Never been much for the lake. I prefer the rivers or the ocean.

I wonder what the catfish think when the see all the beer cans/bottles.... "Hmm.. this can't be good."

Sheeeeit, I fish whatever's available...I agree that lakes aren't always the nicest setting...when I lived in tahoe I loved the small tiny streams that run through all the meadows. Brookies up the wazoo.

But if you've never fished from a float tube, you should try it...its like fishing from an armchair...and when the action is right, mmmmmmmm...such fun. Not to mention that when the weather is hot you can sit half in the water and be nice and cool the whole time.

Shit one day I imagine I'll be drunk and goofy enough to fish naked in one of them suckers.

Done it. White River is the best float going. Get to work on the tan at the same time.

Just don't lose the cooler!
