 What forum/community software to use?

I am thinking about setting up a community/forums for a particular niche.
Any suggestions (and why) as to what software is best for this these days are welcome. Thanks in advance. . |

smart man will use xenforo :thumbsup ( simple, faster and I heard a bunch of develloper of VB haved migrate long ago at xenforo )
If you venture in the vbulletin, here few advice for you ; 1 - i hope you know coding and etc ... vbulletin is a complicated script 2 - if you don't know code; YOU NEED A FAT WALLET, cuz vb tech EXPENSIVE :) 3 - security patch when you see this on your cpanel do it Right AWAY .... if you can't do your self well $100 extra to your tech lol ) 4 - everytime you add a plug in or mod or add on : YES ITS true..... VB broken all the freaking time something new add to it. pm me for more details :thumbsup . BTW i have a license of VB i do not use anymore if your interested with a PR2 domain name :winkwink: Good Luck |

I was looking at vbulletin first but did find a lot of negative about the latest release (5 I think). I am a programmer by trade so I am not worried about having to do some coding. Also not worried about having to maintain the install.
Brian I already have a domain I plan to use. If the license can be transferred to another domain then I would be open to hearing what you want for it. Thanks for your responses. . |

Whatever they're using on bhw seems pretty good.

And there are plenty of styles (designs) for it. Good addons too. IPB is supposed to be pretty decent as well and allegedly has a better third party crowd for plugins/designs. I say allegedly because I don't use it, but talked to a few people who do. They said they dindu nuffin. |

 SMF is rather good :)

For free, you can test out phpbb, bbpress, MyBB and Simple Machines.
For paid options the best IMO are XenForo and Invision Power Board. flarum looks good as well. |

anyone know if vbullet, xenforo, or IPB have a plugin/addon where you can create a thread title as a plug? so instead of going to the thread, it redirects to the url

I used in the past phpbb and I must say that is awesome and is SEO friendly , of course is not the most "handsome" but is very usefull
