Screenshots from miniDV or DVD directly
Just wondering what proggy is used to take those high-res screenshots directly from the miniDV source or the DVD source

windows movie maker actually does a pretty good job and it's free

anything else? something that would batch capture every x frame a picture straight from the DVD?
PowerDVD does ok captures but you have to actually watch the movie and click for every pic you want. |
We capture a whole movie from miniDV tape to hard drive (with original quality) and take high-res screenshots (620 X 480). We use Pinnacle Studio 7

I use FMV4 for pic extraction. But I extract them from the avi file not from the dvd itself.
The pics on the url posted above are nice but they forgot the de-interlace function so you get those tv-lines on parts where the image is blured. |

I think you mean 720 X 480 :) |

Yes, the originals are 720 X 480 |

(not constraining the proportions of the aspect ratio) I believe a 720 X 480 image would reduce down to 620 X 413 if you constrain the proportions. |

may be we crop them? http://www.teencoreclub.com/scila/screen01.jpg |
Oh, I see it's actually 640 X 480

I do it by hand with Premiere just because some frames look a lot better than others (less motion blur etc.). But one thing that makes a huge difference with the quality of your stills is using a *ton* of light while you're filming.
