Are we getting a little carried away here? We are over 60 days away and we don't have the slightest idea yet how this problem in the Toronto hospital will play out.

Facts : Schools, 2 hospitals are closed. Visitors are only allowed to go in someone to see someone in terminal phase. 100's of people are under quarantine. A new case in New Brunswick.

"The SARS bug has killed another patient in Toronto and a 21-month-old baby has been put in respiratory isolation as the mysterious virus continues to spread"

"So far, there are 100 SARS cases across the province and thousands who have been exposed to the disease are in quarantine. "

"Officials have discovered some SARS patients are much more infectious than others, able to transmit the illness to 30 or 40 others."

"We have concerns we may see cases arise in other areas of the province," Dr. Colin D'Cunha, Ontario's commissioner of public health, said yesterday

Nationwide spread

But it seems Canadian authorities have been unable to contain the virus.

There are now four suspected cases in British Columbia, on Canada's west coast, including one person in a serious condition.

On the other side of the country, in New Brunswick, a school has been closed and a teacher thought to have the illness has been put under quarantine.

People returning from trips to south-east Asia are thought to have been the source of the outbreaks.

The Federal Health Ministry is now working with officials at Canadian airports to try and devise a programme to screen people leaving and arriving on international flights."
