Who's gotten nailed for drunk driving?
 

Yeah, so, my friend was pulled over and arrested for drunk driving the other night. Not a full-fledged DWI, but one of those grey areas where your BAC is less than 0.10 but enough so that they can charge you with something. Fortunately it doesn't go down as a real "crime," only a violation like a speeding ticket. Of course, I anticipate that he'll get a nice insurance rate hike and a temporarily suspended license, in addition to outrageous legal fees, impound charges and fines. Thankfully, there was no accident or worse, and I'm sure he'll never drive drunk ever ever ever again.

From my perspective, this scares the crap out of me. All my friends and I have at some point driven beyond the legal limit, meaning it could have happened to any of us. I know I plan on increasing my taxi budget tenfold.

I hate drunk drivers. My first boyfriend was killed by a drunk driver the first day he had his car. Grr.

Guess you stopped reading after the first line then. I've driven drunk a lot of times, which is why this scared the shit out of me. It could have easily BEEN me.

But far be it for me to argue with people who need to use huge font sizes to get their points across.

My first gf, although not gf at the time it happened, was killed in a car accident - her bf just got his licesne and was racing some other kids in a car - while it was raining out. Alcohol may have been involved, I dunno - but the three people in the car (driver, 2 girls), two survived.

I have driven drunk many times, and sure that sounds really fucking dumb to say, but I can seriously handle my drunkness (new word?).

I know my limits, and will not drive if I see double. That to me says IMPAIRED. But I play a lot of FPS games all the time very drunk, and most of the time I play better - and Im very good to begin with. Also racing games. Im just good with the reflexes and will own any sober mofo in almost anything.

Then theres the people that dont know their limits. These are the kind of drunk fuckers that get all loud and stupid and rowdy and shit when they are piss drunk - these are the fools that will drive anyway seeing double.

they are just as dangerous driving.

thats not good, but i admit there are those times where you are fucking stuck in some place that you really dont or cant be and you have to drive.

if im seeing double or have to hold one eye open to see straight then ya i'd rather sleep under a tree

In my case he was on his way over to pick me up.. He didn't show up and I was pissed off, didn't know what happened until the next day and they announced it on the radio while I was on my way to schooll. It was not the best way to find out, believe me.

I got pulled over when I was high before. The cop didn't know though.

Got caught in Stettler, Alberta many many years ago. Haven't driven drunk since. Not a pleasant experience.....

My buddies and I have said that to each other for years... and it's basically true, but flawed. There are some people that get tanked up and drive just as poorly as they would act outside of a car - stupidly, agressively, etc. Then there are people who get a few drinks in them and suddenly drive more conservatively, slowly, etc. because they know what's up.

All that does is reduce the chance that you'll be pulled over, though. The machine doesn't lie - no matter how well you handle your booze, the breathalizer will show exactly how much you drank. The law doesn't allow for how well you "handle" your booze.

Why drink and drive.. when you can smoke and fly..

The biggest mistake people make when driving drunk is they drive stupid..speeding...swirwing...if you had a few drinks and you absolutely have to drive.. take it easy and dont speed, pay attention.. Chances are you will not get pulled over if you drive normal..

i got a dui at .09 blood alchohol level.. .08 is legal..it was three beers and cost me $4k..wasnt even close to being drunk

you don't have to be drunk to get a DUI,
If you pass the physical test but fail the breath test you still can get busted for DUI

If you had only one drink and blow within 30 minutes you can blow over .08

also one Beer=glass wine=shot of liquor its all the same effects to the breath test

it sucks cause you can feel fine but the cop can still ruin your life

Some tips i have read but not heard from experience

-Plea the 5th and don't tell the cop nothing
-Do not take the breath or physical test
-sucking pennies in your mouth can absorb alcohol

true if you know you have not dranken that much and know you will pass the blood test when you hit the station

I got a DUI. Here .1 is lega for ADULTS. I was 18 and had a .079. If I was 21 I wouldnt have gotten a DUI. I think its fucked up that legal limit for someone thats 20 is .02, and its .1 for someone 1 day older.

It did GREATLY reduce my drinking and driving though... Now after more than 1-2 I wont drive for a couple hours. I think its a good thing, when I was 16-17 I would drive home and not remember it the next day. Dangerous shit.

There is a BIG difference from somebody drinking one or two drinks blowing slightly higher then a .08 and someone who is so intoxicated that they can't even walk. I think it should be raised to .15 or .2.

i got caught drunk driving once (i was not dead drunk and could hande the car with no problems)

i had 40$ on me so i bribed the cop and he took it but told me to drive home (they escorted me all the way to my home)

The thing about the penny wouldnt work because the alcohol is expelled from your lungs. Can't you get a refusal for not taking a test. But I agree on your point about a big money maker, .08 is ridiculous

On thursday i was driving around with a friend.
Got pulled by the cops.

They asked for all the documents (licence, insurance, blah, blah)
Since they found that everything was allright,
they did the alcohol test. Came out 0.0.

They were so pissed that they retained me for 15 more minutes, because they were *checking my records over the police radio*

Had to slip them a $10 so the fucks can let me go.

I didnt know blowing a 0.00 was possible. I heard the body has a natural BAC level of 0.01.

i got a dui just recently. i was just above the limit and i was fine to drive. he had me do all these random tests like stand on one foot and count from 30 to 1 and i passed them all with flying colors but failed the breathalizer. its all about the $ for them. my friends were in the car with me and he gave them breathalizers to see if they could drive and my friends girlfriend took it and he stopped it under the limit before she was done and let her take my car. he didnt care about keeping me off the road, they just have to meet their quota. but i learned my lesson and i even quit drink all together for quite a while. if anyone has info about going to court like what kind of lawyer to get, etc let me know.

why on earth would u bribe the cop if you didnt do anything wrong?

I knew a guy who paid 2-3K for a lawyer reguarding a DUI. He got the same thing as the people I know who didnt pay for a lawyer.

they were waiting for the bribe... or maybe i shouldve waited untill they came up with some bullshit charge, so they could take me down to the station untill i finally opened my wallet? and waste hours of my time for not shelling out a lousy $10?

Got pulled up in London one time and failed the handheld breathalyser - complete wanker of a copper manhandled me into the station with a raised fist claiming he'd 'got another one'. Even the duty sargeant looked at him like he was the station wanker.

Anyways I passed the test in the station no problem (well below) so they released me - when I asked the arresting cop why his handheld unit was so out of whack and did they normally treat people like that, he marched me out to my car and started going over tyre treads, rego, tax and anything else he could think of.

Guess the bastard just didn't like me Irish accent or something! Eventually he let me go saying he'd be watching out for me!

my husband is left permantly disabled because of a drunk driver. The pics of his legs were posted once before in a thread..I am reminded everyday the damage it does.

I agree - drunk driving is stupid so I don't as a rule. The grey area comes when you wonder how long it takes to clear your system - we get many convictions in Oz the morning after!

if you are arrogant enough to think you can "handle" your booze or that you can still handle a car you might want to think about joining AA. I think if you drink and drive and get caught you should get at least a 2 year license suspended and 90 days in jail. It's a 100% avoidalbe problem but every day innocent people get killed buy people who think they can handle their booze or that booze makes them a better driver. Booze alters your mental state. You may think you are okay and reacting fine but it is just your brain tricking you into thinking these things.

blew "twice the legal limit"

but the worst part was the consequences

1 night jail time
32 hours community service at local food bank
8 hours community service at local jail
$70 9 hour Driving Safety and DUI Class
$600+ bail
$1k for lawyer
$1k in fees
$120 for "probation costs"

total =

61 hours of my life wasted
$2790 of my hard earned porn money down the toilet (could have bought a crappy used car for that lol)

now I don't have to drive drunk anymore because my girlfriend is nice enough to drive me out to the club on saturday nights, so its not much of an issue anymore

yeah never mind the people you could have killed or crippled, the reason to stop was the money.

hey, they shouldnt be on the road at 3:30 in the morning if they dont want to deal with drunk drivers

I drove drunk too this weekend, but after reading the replies I will never do it again... Sorry to hear those tragedies :(
