Iraq's long history with Britain

I thought it was an interesting read, and there's quite a bit about the oil motivation. If you're interested in histories, you might like this one.

Britain and Iraq have had a long history; Iraq was created by Britain after World War I in what used to be known as Mesopotamia. Find out more about this long and somewhat strained relationship between Britain and Iraq

I found this one interesting too, but very sad. I read a lot on ancient civilizations and history.

When the Gulf War ended, looters smuggled thousands of artifacts out of Iraq. Many other priceless monuments from thousands of years old civilizations were left lying around to be destroyed carelessly and casually. With the new U.S. - Iraq war, the spectre looms of smart bombs hitting thousands upon thousands of archaeological treasure troves. This is such a serious concern that the Pentagon employed a team of archaeologists to mark out the precious spots.

Great find Brujah. It's a shame there is so little interest in a thread like this considering the war.

There was a show on PBS in the last 10 days or so where they were speaking to some high ranking military guy and he said that they have maps of the known archaeolgical sites and are doing their utmost to not hit targets there.

He also had some pics of sites they HAD hit where the target was gone but the site was undisturbed. Even had a few from the first war that were taken close up and it was amazing that the building they wanted was a shell, but an obvious 'dig' looked little worse for the wear.

The hubby watches all of those shows, he's big on history no matter what civilization its from. I guess since he can't get alot about his own histories that maybe these sort of fill in.
