That is obviously a violation of the Geneva convention.
You can't blind fold a POW.

Oh well, there aren't rules to war, remember?

What article is this picture from anyway? For all I know, this could be 6 years old.

Simon-interaid 03-29-2003 02:50 PM

AFP photo from today can be found

and captioned...

" US Marines from the 2nd Battalion 8th Regiment escort two Iraqi military prisoners who have surrended after crossing US lines in Nasiriyah, southern Iraq (news - web sites).(AFP/Eric Feferberg)"

In previous altercations the term "captured combatents" has been used prior to "POW" and for security reasons in transport blindfolds have been used.

Might want to do some learning Simon http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/lawofwar/geneva03.htm

Yea, but were the bad guys. No matter that they have no problem with toruture, execute, and beheading which arabs do to their prisoners.

Sly_RJ 03-29-2003 02:58 PM

Which Chapter and Section does it say you can't blindfold POWs? I'm just curious, I can't find it.

sacX 03-29-2003 03:56 PM

The Geneva Convention prohibits activities that might humiliate prisoners.

The photo of Walker Lindh naked on a stretcher, blindfolded and
handcuffed is the commonly quote breach of the Geneva Convention.

POW versus illegal combatant really is just semantics.

amazing how some people's biggest kick in this war is finding fault with the Americans. Nothing the Iraqis do is worth commenting on by these fucking idiots - this is what now has to be dealt with - basically the enemy within.

An Iraqi soldier can get into peasants clothing fall to the ground and surrender and then ambush the non-suspecting American and British troops, murdering them in cold blood without giving them the chance to defend themselves. The Fedayeen goon squads can force innocent Iraqi civilians against their will to be killed by Coalitions forces. They don't think it worth comment that
a tyrant named Hussein has put MILLIONS of Iraqis in Baghdad in harm's way by building the most sensitive military installations right in downtown Baghdad. Can you imagine this in your own country? NO! You can't because the people wouldn't stand for it - grab a clue GFY's Saddam Fanboy Contingent - the people there have no say in anything and this is a just war in which the intent is to overthrow a regime that endangers not only millions of Iraqi lives but millions of others all over the globe. But I know you are all mouth breathers with room temperature I.Q's so there's pretty much nothing we can do for you, you heard some hippy or malcontent on TV say 'It's about Oil' and now that is all you can parrot.

To a Saddam Fanboy it's much more important to point out that an American soldier dropped a bubble gum wrapper somewhere in the desert than to deal with their hero Saddam hanging a woman who waved at the troops as they drove by.

Mutt,

You won't win on this board. Each day the anti-american crowd grows. Odd how so many are from countries that if attacked by Iraq would probably surrender. Or run into their closets to hide.

Funny how no one complains that Saddam is targeting civilians when he lands a missile in a Kuwait shopping mall? Guess he was targeting military shoppers.

Here's what I gather...

They already know Saddam is spineless and will resort to ugly tactics. Planting bombs and blaming the coalition, killing civilians to blame the coalition, killing civilians for not fighting, launching missiles into other civilian locations (including a city in Northern Iraq), etc.

They hold the coalition to extremely high standards just so they have something to bitch about, even though deep down they know that the coalition isn't targeting civilians, but military targets.

--

I was just reading earlier today... there are several reports that the marketplace bombing that took place in Baghdad is still up in the air, and it was quite possibly an Iraqi ploy to place more blame on the coalition.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know. BUT, we have seen how Saddam is willing to play this ball game. There are no rules.

The bombing could have very well been an Iraqi "blame game".
