Fuck, liberals were right. US forces going AWOL.

"Takoma, the Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphin, had been in Iraq for 48 hours when he went missing on his first operation to snoop out mines. "
... he was spotted at a peace demonstration in sydney yesterday ... |
Takoma and his fellow mine hunters have a special diet, regular medical checks and their own sleeping quarters, which is more than can be said for the vast majority of the military whose domestic arrangements are basic, to say the least

Dolphins are probably more intelligent than your average ground pounder.
|
So my questions is!!
how many gazillion of dollars does US millitary spent for 20 years on this dolphin? |

do they have some sort of sensor that detects the mine and transmits the signal back to the navy/marines? |

This "stupid dolphin" is guiding humanitarian aid ships into the Iraqi port after the Gulf had been seeded with mines. |

crazyness... thanks amp/sly.
i want an evil dolphin to do my bidding. so the dolphin is nothing like the navy dolphin in johnny mnemonic who uses his souped up sonar powers to kill jesus? |

well you know dolphins have sonar, they can detect the mines from about 2 miles away... Any solid object that they know shouldn't be there, they alert the trainer and then swim to the object and drop a bowie next to it..Then they blow it up... TA-DA |

The dolphin came back btw. But peta says use of dolphins, chickens, dogs, in war effort is inhumane.

Using dolphins is smart, even if you don't agree with it, the military dolphins are likely happier/better treated than any 'circus' ones... Hell, they're probably using the same dolphins from Sea World... Cheers, Matt |
The use of dolphins can closely be compared to K9 units in police roles.
INstead of the dogs sense of 'smell' the dolphin is prized because of its 'sonar'. Equally respected, well cared for, and most certainly missed and remembered when they fall. I can remember seeing groups of 30+ LAPD crying when a 10 or 20 year K9 officer was shot during a drug deal on night, big news in LA, said that dog had caught more bad guys than some 10 year human officers. I dont think its a bad thing. :glugglug |
