Rio de Janeiro's acting governor: Olympics could be a 'big failure' - CNN.com

(CNN)The headache for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games organizers shows no signs of subsiding.

Six weeks before the Games are set to begin, Francisco Dornelles, the acting governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, told the Brazilian newspaper O Globo that the state has not yet received recently-approved federal funds to beef up security and transportation for the quadrennial competition.
"I am optimistic about the games, but I have to show the reality. We can make a great Olympics, but if some steps are not taken, it can be a big failure," Dornelles told O Globo.

The budget shortfall adds to the "perfect storm" Brazil is facing leading up to the Games, due to kick off on August 5. Organizers are dealing with concerns regarding the Zika virus, a doping scandal in which Brazil's only testing lab was suspended, high crime and political upheaval involving the country's highest figures.

Olympics will never be a big failure no matter the circumstances... It's the fucking Olympics lol

I don't think the Olympics are always a good idea for a host nation. There's always issues involved with hosting, and its very expensive. This whole zika thing has worldwide health implications, too.

Brasil was a different nation when they won it. Shit goes up and down in SA very quickly.

Its always been that way. The worst thing for people is they go on for like 5 minutes. The robbers aren't the least bit concerned.

Is it legal to buy and carry firearms in Rio?

Brasil has one of the highest murder rates in the world and VERY strict gun control. Good people can't have guns unless they're law enforcement. Bad people get them easily and use them frequently.

Ironically, they're trying to change their laws to match ours :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

A friend of mine goes down there regularly to keep his long distance relationship going. He's usually there 2 months at a time. He's never had a problem although he's been concerned about the Zika virus thing. I have another friend who went out there and got robbed for her camera after being there for a couple of hours.

Olympics and FIFA need to be overhauled. It's crazy to award the games to countries like Brazil, it had problems when the awarded them which have grown.
