Ibill checks in Canada

Is there any bank in Canada able to clear Ibill checks the ones from London England? Royal Bank does not. Anybody has other suggestions besides wire transfer?

ZoiNk 03-28-2003 01:37 PM

I have heard of someone having problems with them at TD as well. Only ibill cheque I have recieved lately was from the Ibill office out of the US drawn on their US bank, and it seems to have cleared.

Just call the local banks and ask. Your personal bank should cash whatever you give them.

Ray@TastyDollars 03-28-2003 02:11 PM

Royal Bank does not? Huh? They always cleared my Ibill checks. As a matter of fact they clear all my US checks just like Canadian checks. They dont hold the funds for a month like most banks do.

Talk to your branch manager, If he/she said no change bank.

Save yourself the trouble and just get a wire. That's what 90% of the canadian customers do.

I've got a "collection item" sitting on my desk from Scotiabank, they seem unable to process iBill Europe checks either. :321GFY

Ray the check from Ibill US are fine, but the Ibill Euro checks don't clear even if you talk to the manager of the bank. They told me thay would have to collect the check which means puting in on hold forever and there are aditional fees too. Sucks, maybe there is some Euro British Bank here willign to clear it.

bigunns yeah I know but I got two check in front of me one is $600 and the other $70 so paying $37 Ibill fee for wire does not make much sense for small checks so I'm just looking for other solutions now

pine 03-28-2003 03:44 PM

What's iBill?

You must be American...because you think you know what you're talking about, but you don't.

Canadian banks cannot cash US checks that are drawn from banks in other countries.

The End.

I was in the same boat...It's only been taking me 5-7 days for the checks to clear...once my bank sends them to collections.

I had problems cashing my iBill Europe check from within Europe. Allegedly it's because those checks are actually drawn on a Gibraltar Bank and these banks have a bad reputation because of money laundry etc.

In the meantime I switched to wire (regardless of the additional fees) but am still waiting being compensated for the bounced check which included revenues from November!!!

there are two divisions - if you want to call them that.

Regular Jettis and Jettis europe for canadians and other non-us based people that don't have a US corporation/presence

Excuse me, but...all I hear about is some problems with cashing checks from the UK in Canada. Wasn't Canada a UK territory until not too long ago? What's up with all these problems?

Yeah, they sent mine to collections right away too....but it only took like 5-7 days to be cleared. However collections took a few bucks.

It has nothing to do with it being the UK...

The thing is...they are US checks drawn on a bank in London...If they were in pounds it would be fine, but because the currency's in US dollars it's a problem and drawn on a bank outside the States they can't cash them.
