Just a little FYI for anyone going to Montreal - being in Buffalo, NY, I've crossed the border 100's of times & until 9-11 it was really no big deal (I've only been pulled over once & I think that's because I had a rental car) The rule is that you're supposed to have either your birth certificate (not a copy) or a Passport. I've never been asked for either, even the time I was pulled over (maybe because I was born & live in the Buffalo area so they "know" me - LOL) but the local news & radio have been informing al of us that they are actually checking for birth certs or passports these days (I haven't been up there since the war broke out, so I can't comment personally) So, if you're crossing the border, bring your birth cert or passport :)
Also, if you're driving over, remember one thing - do not speak unless spoken too - nothing pisses off a border agent more then having someone yell things form the back seat - LOL - they will want all the info to come from the driver & will only address passengers to find out where they were born (well, who know's what the procedure is nowadays - LOL)
