The Fayadeen
 

It is being reported that the Fayadeen has been infiltrated/dispersed among the Iraqi populace and are forcing (at gun point) Iraqi soldiers to fight, as well as civilians. I do not have any way of knowing how accurate these reports are, but it is not an unheard of tactic.

The VC did basically the same thing in Vietnam, in the sense that they would enter villages, execute all that were percieved to be pro South, and conscript everyone that was of age to fight, teens on up.

The Germans sometimes "embedded" SS troops with regular Army troops and would at times summarlily execute those Officers, NCO's or troops that they felt were not giving their all for the Riech.

The Soviets during the Second World War would send a Battalion into battle with a Battalion behind it with a dual role, a Battalion in reserve as well as a Battalion to fire upon the attacking Battalion if it began to retreat from the battle.

Turkey has been reported to give kurds rifles to fight against PKK.. Set up these so called "village patrols"

If villages refused, they face the wrath of Turks, if they accept, they face the revenge of PKK..

They took one of the vocal dissenters to middle of town. Tied him to a street light pole. Cut his tongue out. Left him there to bleed to death.

Why don't we just offer these guys a $10,000 bonus each to give up protecting Saddam. They don't make that much money.

FIgure to bribe 50,000 of them would only cost us $500 Million. Which is chump change in comparison of the costs to keep dragging on.

As for pretending to surrender, the Japanese were not big on surrendering, but because of the dirty tactics (pretending to surrender) by some of them early in the war, the Soldiers would not accept a surrender unless they stripped naked.
