Car Problems
 

I had my front brakes go out on me late lastnight. No big deal i got home fine. The brake pads must be worn all the way down because they are grinding really hard on the rotors.

Well my question is...Has anyone had their front brakes go out before and still drove just for a little while? I doubt I'd be going over 35mph. I really need to get to the bank today and get some checks cashed and shit. I need diapers like right now. Will it be okay to drive just for a little while ? I can get the brakes fixed monday. Already got an apointment. I'm just wondering if anyone here knows anything about cars and can tell me if it's okay to drive a few miles to get my business done.

as high as I get id never drive with bad brakes.

not to mention the furthering damage to the vehicle.

DON'T DO IT! You will 100% score your roters, and it will cost 10x as much than a brake job. You may have already done this, but every day you drive it, it will cost you more..

As long as you know how to drive with your emergency break, you'll be fine:thumbsup

Had my brakes out for week back in the day when I was too poor to fix em :) Nothing like breaking breakin wit your hand, heh.

Take a taxi or the bus. Don't risk it. Some guy in FL just got 27 years in prison for accidentally running over a kid. What if a kid on a bike cruises out in front of you and you're brakes don't stop the car in time.

Yeah I know, I took a look at the rotors this morning and I know they need replaced anyways. They are pretty much worn down. I'm trying to get ahold of my wife to see if she can get off work so I can get this shit done. :feels-hot

Ya, park it until you can fix it, it can go beyond the rotor's to the caliper's etc.. The list goes on, get it fixed before you drive it again.

I know all of this. The car actually stops perfectly fine. It's just the drivers side front thats grinding. I had the back brakes replaced about 3 months ago. They look fine. The passenger front looks fine. Just the drivers side is grinding.

I just really hate sitting here with no diapers and needing to get to the bank to get my deposits done.

That's what I'm gona do. I am not gona risk it.

I wouldn't drive it. One drip of oil or something falls on your brake pads and your fucked my friend.

My brakes aren't so old but my CV boots burts on my car which was leaking oil. When I braked hard the car just refused to stop coz of all the oil falling from my CV boot directly onto my brake pads and alloy wheels. I drove the car like this for 2 days coz I never knew. Then I seen my new wheels were covered in oil and I had a look and seen my CV boot was missing.

Took me about 2 days to get it booked into get fixed!

if you've got one side worn worse, sounds like you might have a caliper grabbing, or one that isn't. probably going to need rotors, calipers and pads. not so bad if you're like me and have accounts at parts stores and do it all yourself, but easily a $400-500 job at a shop, depending on the type of car and all.

Well the capliper seems to be working fine. The brake pad is gone. Worn down completley. Just the metal plate (the backing of the brake pad) is there. I just went down and looked. The rotor is pretty much worn down too.

You gotta be fucking kidding me?! The front breaks are the most important breaks on your car and you ask if you can drive without them?

And for the person saying to use the emergency break... That would never get your car to stop in time if you had to.

that can _occasionally_ cause problems, sometimes with over-extension and such. i'd examine the caliper carefully before reusing it. you might spend some cheap $$ with a rebuild kit.

then again, it might be just fine, i'd just make sure and give it a good twice-over, just in case. :2 cents:
