He's tall and asian. Perfect for endorsing American products because he's not likely to be "controversial".

That's why they trump him up as a player. He has skills, but just not as much as they make him out to be. But he could prove everyone wrong. Who knows.

Until you start following basketball and know what you're talking about...Don't make stupid comments.

Yao Ming will be a great center...The guy's 22 years old and has never played against competition that even comes close to the NBA until this year...He's a rookie and has a lot to learn about the game in general, let alone the NBA.

Plays 30 mins a game...scores 14pts, grabs almost 8.5 boards, swats away close to 2 shots a game and shoots over 50% from the field and 80% from the foul line....Those numbers are impressive for any young up and coming rookie.

Ming will be a dominate center who will go for 20+pts, 10+ boards, 3 blocks, a game for his career...I'd bet a lot of money on that.

JimW 03-27-2003 08:51 AM

Yao will be best center in the league hands down once Shaq retires in a few years..

Boy you guys jump to conclusions quick. It's too early to tell if he will be the next best thing...

Just a reminder...

Rookie Seasons

Kobe - 7.6 PPG
Garnett - 10.4
McGrady - 7.0

Jordan 28.2 just for a little perspective on greatness.

Jordan didn't come right out of high school.

There's no doubt Shaq is the MOST dominate player in the league today, I mean they actually wrote new rules to try and "level" the playing field because of him... The only other player to ever cause that much change was Kareem...

Yet, last game against the Rockets he didn't play because he said, "That unlike the other centers in the league he can't play against Yao unless he's 100%... He's that good!" That says alot to me? Maybe I'm wrong....

Not only is he a rookie, but in China, they don't have any kind weight or strength training... That was his downside, he had NEVER lifted a weights in his life until the Rockets drafted him, give him a year or two to build some strength and he will be badass... Cause that China Man has game....

I'm willing to bet next year will be the start of the "Ming dynasty"...:thumbsup

Exactly, lets not forget that David Robinson used to own Shaq and don't even mention the out behind the shed ASS WHUPPIN Hakeem the Dream gave Shaq in the finals when he was with Orlando. This kid has got some serious skeeeeelz!

kad 03-27-2003 10:53 AM

I say 'fuck ming'. LaBron James is the future.

We dont get high school games broadcast over here, but ESPN is showing the All-American game, and god damn James can play.

I cant wait to see this guy play NBA next session. :2 cents:

K.G. will be the next dominant BIG MAN(not center) but big man. Yao is a side show and will be forgotten(except by the houston fans) in a few years.

funny how you assume that I don't follow basketball. Yao Ming has been playing prof. ball for how long now? The guy is 7'6'', by far the tallest in the league, he should have NO competition but he has had problems with smaller centers now hasnt he? Yea he's a rookie but he's also a first round draft pick. Tony Parker made a very smooth transition from the euro league into the NBA and his comp. is much harder than Yao's. He will be a good center, but he will not dominate the center position, he's not atheltic enough.

So your comparing Shaq's younger years to Yao now? Don't do that, Yao is not an ATHELETE! He's just tall. It's like comparing apples to oranges

last time around everybody was bashing shaq when they lost(even though he out played Yao that game, go figure) and this time around i didnt even see a Yao/Shaq post. Odd. Just putting the facts out there sir, if it looks like i'm hating that you must be a Yao fan.

- Not a Lakers fan by the way.

Yea, I'm sure that's why 7th field goal % in the league...He may not be anywhere near as strong as Shaq, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have athletic skills...

watchin the guy play on the court shows that he has no athletic skills. just because he can shoot doesnt mean that he is a true athelete.
