Why is the media doing this?

CNN (and probably the others) are really playing up a picture some troops took of a picture on a wall from a building captured in Iraq. The painting features 2 airplanes plowing into the 2 trade tower buildings.

Now, this I would expect from FOX (Fair and Balanced my ass!), but CNN suprises me a bit. I feel like this is one of those "emotional tugs" on our hearts to round up support for the war.

Of course some Moslems and especially Iraqis hate us and will paint pictures like this. But wtf...is this supposed to be the "smoking gun" linking Iraq and the terrorists?

80% of all Fox, CNN, etc. media coverage on this war is to help drum up support.

Bush's approval percentage is raising for a reason...and it's not because he's a great guy! Isn't propaganda wonderful?

You make that number up? Or did you do some kind of study and can provide empirical evidence?

That's the craziest thing I have ever seen. His approval ratings are rising yet this is probably the most backwards and ill advised war ever. Even Vietnam had a credible enemy.

Their coverage and reporting style is designed to attract viewers not support for the war.

Sly_RJ 03-26-2003 05:59 PM

They're playing on your emotions to attract more viewers. More viewers, more money.

I stopped reading CNN after I found Sky News. Sky seems pretty decent, not so emotional.

Media will air what they believe the American public wants to see. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

I am going to laugh my ass off when Bush gets re-elected in 2004.

But, do you think a network station would do this?
CBS, NBC, ABC?
Guess I'll find out later tonite.

Why not?

Porn sites deliver what they believe surfers will buy.
Car companies make cars that they believe consumers will buy.
Etc.

If a majority of the American public wanted to see something else on the air, they would air that. But since they don't, they won't.

yea, wish we had media like iraq. Controlled by state. Zero freedom of press. Showing american troops that had been executed. Making completely false statements. Showing taped statements from the leader pretending its live even though its been badly edited and has no timely information.

clickpimp 03-26-2003 06:05 PM

the essence of reporting is to report what's wrong.

Oh PULEEASE! yada yada yada! Tired old argument.

What I am questioning is this: IS this REALLY news?
Something informative and helpful for people to watch to learn from?

I'm sorry to inform you this but sky news = fox. Sky news is their sister company.

That's fine. I don't care who owns it as long as they don't bring all the emotional drama into the picture. All the stuff about moms missing their children, blah, that isn't news. That's "feel good" filler content to attract more viewers.
