I see mainstream newspaper sites starting to charge people to read the articles.
They are used to selling to the reader so this is their mind set.
Yet free sites usually get more traffic to monetize.
So this self-defeating philosophy is strong.

no joke, I used to give people free accounts and about 20% of them would SELL their submit accounts to other webmasters ...
