This whole thing has taken up a lot of my time. A LOT. Glad its over what a headache. Over 6 months of bullshit. Im gunna go have some drinks and get drunk with the Mexicans tonight. They be building me a house. |

Ill probably be posting some questions to home owners as to what floors and cabinets to get.
We were looking at hardwood cherry throughout. But does that look bad? Is it too dark? ANd Dark Grannite countertops. Too dark? |
Sweet :thumbsup Have fun
|
These are cherry floors.
Looks real nice we thought. This isnt our home, just a home with nice cherry. I think i like it. <img src="http://www.johnlscott.com/listings/30000/34893/320px/show243798.jpg"> |

Congrats bone! I've been looking at some log homes myself lately. Nothing like a log home in the middle of 30 acres with a shotgun above the doorstep!
|
Mind taking snapshots of your new home?

Its just a plot of land. I can take a pic of some dirt, but it wont be intresting, |
Thanks guys.
Glad to finally get it done. Fucking huge headache up till this point. Hopefully this home buying expierence getss better from here on out. Yeah I like the cherry and black granite, and you are right if there are light walls white or off white it looks nice |
Congrats on the new house, Boneprone! Understand that when they "It will be ready in July", they REALLY mean "September/October" ;)

Someone mentioned some other material other than granite to me.
"Soap Stone" or somethin like that. Anyone hear of that? |
Boneprone - hire a professional designer. Growing up we built or gutted and rebuilt every house we ever lived in and my mother ALWAYS had a designer on hand. They REALLY help with selecting the right colors, materials, appliances, contractors, etc. NOT an interior decorator (though you can get one of those, too :winkwink: ), a designer works more with the nuts and bolts - like floors and countertops :)
|
you should let dank take care of it
|
I hate to break it to you sweetie but you're going to get nicked for way more than 10 or 20k to get what you want...
It's pretty easy to run up a 100k in upgrades real fast on things like stone, flooring and cabinetry -- |
take pictures of the dirT !
|
i just got an estimate to put hardwood floors in a house i am buying ...3000 square ft and looking at over 25k..just oak...it already has the granite but to get the granite for your kitchen you'll be looking at 4-6K
|
you were probably just in time to miss the coming interest rate hikes. Hope you locked in for a while?
|
Bone,

I reccomend that you get http://www.americanhomeshield.com/home.jsp when you finish. It will be the best thing you've ever done. Everyone I tell about them thank me for the info.
I give you an example of how good AHS is. I purchased a house 3 years ago. Not the best house but it had walls. So a friend of mine told me about AHS. Oh my it was the best thing I've ever done. When I purchased the house it came with Washer/Dryer/6 burner stove, and a large refrigerator. Well seven months after I purchased the house the oven on the stove burnt out. With the price of stoves these days I was a little worried. It's the last thing I wanted to do was buy a new stove. So I called AHS, two days later a repair man came over. He told me the job is going to cost $280 but all I have to pay is $36 dollars. I couldn't believe it, that was great. Then just eight months ago my washer died. No spincycle or nothing. I forgot all about AHS. My wife made the call and the repair guy came over. He said it was the first time he seen a pump on a Maytag die, and that it could not be replaced. I thought I was going to have to go out and buy a new washer. That day AHS called me up and asked me what type of washer I would like. I couldn't believe it two day's later AHS delivered me a new Maytag washer better and deeper than the one we owned. The bill for the new washer was $36 dollars. I totally recommend them it's the greatest investment in home appliance insurance that you will ever make. http://www.americanhomeshield.com/home.jsp And congrats on the new house. |
Peaches way cool! I drove past a really great looking log home the other day. Had the high top cielings and windows covered the side. I almost fell in love....
|
Bone,
congrats to you and the mrs on the new house. Where abouts is it gonna be?? Hardwood is nice, and pergo works pretty good, cheaper and good for kids :) |
We are adding over 2000 sq feet to our home.
So far $ 5000 for the county fees over $ 5000 for the back hoe guy around $53,000 for the construction guy to build and frame to a bare shell. Hub is doing the electric, floor, bathroom, carpet and rest of finish work and we have not even priced anything yet for that. |

Just research if it will scratches easy if you have dogs in your house. My neighbor has an oak floor and it is trashed from letting her dogs in the house |

Boneprone - as an adult female, that pic of the cherry floor and cabinet kitchen you posted looks gorgeous.
But as a mom, it looks like lots of trips to the hospital from little people in socks running, slipping, and crashing headlong into the corner of something. If you're planning on having kids, you might want to have the place carpeted the instant the test comes back positive. |
Headless, I'm a log cabin nut myself. Always wanted to live in a log cabin on the side of a mountain surrounded by trees with a big wrap-around porch and tall ceiling windows with white sheer curtains blowing in the breeze... ahhhh
Take a look here: http://www.bigskylog.com/photo_gallery.html |

Now thats what I'm talking about. Throw in some leather couches, my dog, and some fresh home cooked food... DAMN!!! I'm gunna make a mess of myself! |

Wood floors are very nice but require some maintenance every few years and yeah they can be scratched or dented if you drop something on it.
Marble floors are nice also and not so prone to damage. If you get granite counter tops, chances are you can get granite or marble flooring to match. My new house in vegas has big 20 inch marble tiles thru half of it, looks very nice |

My house was just completed (1500SqFt addition, pretty much new everything) so if you have any questions, hit me up. |
I went with maple for my kitchen/dining area. It's light and bright. On that side of the house, most of the wood I've used for furniture etc, is light... washed oak and light oak. The woods in the rest of the house are all dark cherry (I mean dark..not red red). When I repaint the main part of the house in the next year or so, I'm thinking of having the existing painted crown molding removed and replaced with finished cherry crown moldings to match the wood in the furniture.

Congrats Bone.
My girlfriend does interior design. If you want her to give you some input, hit me up on ICQ, man. She loves this kind of shit. |

No, but she can determine from photos.
This is what she said, when I asked her if she could do it via photos, e-mail, telephone. "All I need is a budget, what your looking for and photographs." |
