Pro's and Con's of Purchased Traffic? I need your opinion!
 

I'm thinking of trying a little experiment, and wonder if anyone has an opinion on the different types of purchased traffic out there (ie. popunders, expired domains, exit traffic, pay-per-click, etc.).

Here's my take: I submitted galleries every day for 15 days, and one week later, I've gotten a total of about 1500 hits clicked through to my pay site from my TGP galleries. It's taken about 36 gigs of bandwidth to get those hits, which equates to about $50 under the current plan I'm on (I realize that this could be lower if I bought more up front, but I didn't anticipate my 'experiment' ahead of time).

My point is, wouldn't it make more sense to just buy $50 worth of hits directly to my paysite, and scrap the whole TGP galleries idea? The traffic price varies depending on where you buy your hits from, but through research I've found that 10K hits runs anywhere from $40 on the low end, up to $150 on the high end, with an average price around $65.

Hmmm. Isn't one of the ideas of a gallery to pre-qualify your traffic? People click through to your site because they're interested in that niche and content.

If you just buy blind clicks into your tour you'll probably have a much lower conversion. If you can find someone who will send reasonably targeted traffic then it may work.

Look at it another way - $50 costs for 1500 prequalified visitors is only 3.3c per click. Compare this with getting your visitors via a pay-per-click search engine.

Of course your time is worth money too, I've conveniently ignored that in my calculation. :)

Hmm. I hadn't considered that, but you have a valid point. I wonder how many blind clicks out of that 10,000 would have clicked through to my tour if they had seen my gallery. Something to ponder.

Do both. Start with a text link so that the traffic is targeted. Yes that traffic is more but you get a real person trying to get to your site. If you want some exposure buy some crappy exit traffic it is cheap and you can see how it works for you.

I'd suggest buying traffic.
