Fucking Password Sites

So sick of these fucking sites. We got listed on a bunch yesterday all on the same day and had over 300k - 500k hits per hour into the members section. Any suggestions to prevent this? With leased content who pays for all the bandwidth? All our leased content was shut off yesterday because of this. Here is where we got listed so you guys can check your sites.

Check the referer with your .htaccess file and redirect them
to the sponsor of your choice.

Libertine 03-25-2003 04:57 PM

Use something like pennywize and mail the owners of password sites asking them to blacklist you.

I have installed a script named Robot Control Pro

it stops brute force attacks and comes with a anti password sharing monitor tool...

and it protects my site against many attacks and dork robots ,page ripers and more shit.

i got it from:

How hard is it to setup a script that only allows one IP per login?

Danielle 03-25-2003 10:59 PM

It is very easy to stop. Use Stop That Hacker on your paysites and forget about password sites. Let it protect both your front and back door 24 hours a day.

People are still complaining about password sites? amazing...

Learn to make that traffic work for you rather then against you.

<p>

Actually we have been on NT servers until a week ago and it was never a problem. You could find out instantly if someone was sharing passwords etc. As soon as we moved to unix we had password sharing problems, kindof strange. Guess it has never been a problem so that is why I don't know how to stop them. =)

pantymaniac 03-26-2003 01:52 AM

BluMedia, blieve me your all sites under high risq ,if you dont know how to stop them !!

try to use mailed pass with random digits ..dont let people chhose their pass and alphanumeric ofcourse

their user pass must be
[email protected]
pass=(mailed) XkRt23 (sandom at least 6 caractere)

And when you make them enter your site dont use pop-up classical login use https form based login

http(s)://members.exemple.com/(randomname)/index.html

MetaMan 03-26-2003 01:59 AM

its not hard at all,
just make it so they cant brute force hack u,
thats all they do, unless they credit card fraud ur site,
but im sure ud find that out.

pantymaniac 03-26-2003 02:12 AM

Bruteforcing only ?? you must be kidding mate...
what bout cgi wholes, processors logs, hosting lameness ?
there is always a hole unless you dont take this serious
like Blumedia did...

its better to do advence then later you have all on xxxpasssites

Wizzo 03-26-2003 10:16 AM

Redirect that shit to "fake" members area and hit for a sale or two... That traffic converts about 1in1500...So if your getting 500k of that 300 or so new members....:winkwink:

MegaPussy 03-26-2003 11:28 AM

We've seen it happen as well, we use a new authentication for our members that gives us total control without third party scripts, but in the past I have used Pennywize and a couple others, just make sure the script you get won't strain your servers under a heavy load. We've redirected over 20,000 uniques in the last week and Wizzo is correct, it does convert about that well going straight to a tour; the fake members pages convert better when we have time to get them up.

Pennywize does this. I know several others do as well. You control the parameters on when to ban.

G Sharp 03-26-2003 05:37 PM

That's bad... also bad = forums. Bastards do direct movie linking, plug in spoofing, etc
