Billions of Dollars Slated for U.S. Allies

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - It can pay to be a member of President Bush's coalition against Iraq.

Wrapped into the $75 billion war budget he proposed to Congress on Tuesday, were grants and loans worth billions of dollars for what he called "partners and friends" in the Middle East, including Israel, Jordan and Egypt.

Assistance is also being offered to many less obvious members of Bush's so-called "coalition of the willing" from Afghanistan and Colombia to the Philippines and Slovakia, which Bush said will help them "wage the broader war on terror."

that we're giving aid/grants to our coalition is old news....the specifics might be new, but the news itself is old hat.

directfiesta,
Do you pay as much attention to Canada as you do to the US and it's interests?

rooster 03-25-2003 03:39 PM

of course not. people like him hate america yet make 95% of their money from americans. They hope bad things happen to america, then throw a hissy fit when the exchange rate is low.

Sure do ... But when US "Foreign Policy" has repercussion on Canadian businesses ( need a link to 4000 jobs cut at Air Canada 2 days ago?), it starts to be a center of focus.... but not enough to invade you!

Interlude 03-25-2003 03:42 PM

The US gov't and private citizens pay out more in international aid than any other country in the world. SHOCKING! :winkwink:

Do you deny all news and facts not favorable to the US?

Not at all. Moreover I can be very critical of my country. However, I would never talk about it with the likes of you.

Yes very old news. They just sent it through Congress but Bush has been offering to buy their support for quite awhile. Turkey turned down the billions we offered to buy their alliance.
