Who is the best web host these days?
 

I've been with the same web host the last 15 years and they aren't delivering like they used to. Who is the best host around these days?

No I don't wanna mention the host now since I am going to give them a chance to fix it I just want to be prepared if we decide to move.

I am happy with HawkHost and I also use Cloud VPS from DigitalOcean they also rock !

That digitalocean looks very good. Am I missing something? 160$/month for a - by the looks of it - better setup than my 175 amerinoc server.

digital ocean? isn't it primary for developers? can you manage a server yourself?

Sure, it's just a gimmick, your other resources like CPU, memory... are limited and you won't be able to run a high traffic site on that cheap virtual account.

Yup im so torn right now cause i need a host that stays up but o dont want to pay a arm and a leg for it and jumping ship with some of those mentioned in this thread is not a good solution... Im hoping they come back online and make it right with us.. But who knows how bad it really is.. Im glad i have a part time gig online and was able to redirect via domain some of my current traffic..

came extremely close to moving my shit a couple of days ago down to that on top of previous dealings with the same staff member. Was easier to get cpanel hosting elsewhere than try and get that task accomplished with cyberwurx, and the associated hassle of moving all my other sites. Other than that, they have been amazing for me since 2003 and definitely looked after me.

I use Amerinoc and Mojohost ... both have been great over the years despite Amerinoc being down at the moment. And I don't think it is really an Amerinoc issue. It seems Level 3 Communications is the real issue today.

If you have a legal adult site you'll never have problems , they allow legal adult sites ! For example a cam site made by using APIs will never have problems on DigitalOcean

Feel a bit upset with Hostgator at the moment, they won't let me run stats for many domains anymore, been doing AWStats there for years

I've never had any real problems with Webair, support maybe not quite as on the ball as it used to be but overall I have a pretty good deal with them.

AWStats is crap it counts bots

What would you recommend? I use Google Analytics for some of my sites

I use GA for sites i care about more and statcounter.com for just a quick look at traffic numbers.

I would use hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of gigs of transfer and they never gave a fuck and the sites stayed up . I couldn't believe it . The only time they ever got mad was when I tried to use their FTP to back drives up .... I had unlimited space damn it

Can you still have backup servers these days? Like you could set NS2 to some other hosting or server back then in case the idiots hosting you disappeared or had downtime

I believe nowadays certain hosting companies are better at certain things. First you should identify what you need from a host and why.

Not sure why you selectively screencap the one incorrect response from 2012 that was later corrected by 3 Digital Ocean employees in that thread. As you see below they do allow legal adult content.

If you would have read the TOS like I did, and was kind enough to link to in my previous post, you'd see they state they allow adult.

I've been with natnet for years now, still have zero reason for complaint. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I have looked indeed and that is why I paraphrased but am now quoting thier current TOS:

... I am of course NOT talking "unlawful" ( albeit some counties in Florida and UK's latest, would give me a pause to think) but the " fine print" also says... " otherwise inappropriate... in their sole discretion..."

If you are willing to take a risk with such "wishy washy" language feel free, but it is not for me. They will fuck you sooner or later and I will be here to tell you " I told you so".:2 cents: :)

All hosts give themselves an option to refuse service at their discretion, yours included, just like restaurants.

I do not want to argue or occupy our mutual time, but my host (I am with for over 10 years ) has TOS where it states clearly : NO sex with or about:

underage
animals
scat
Bdsm with blood
Pissing
Etc....the list is longer but clear....

....and simple... On the other hand Digital Ocean TOS is akin to being " a little bit pregnant"

Anyway, lets stay friends and leave the thread to those who need the questions answered OK ? I disagree,but respect your opinion :thumbsup
