Sky News reports that several neighborhoods in Basra have begun an uprising against the local Ba'ath party. As alot of you know the Shia are the dominant ethnic group of Southern Iraq and have long been maltreated by the Hussein regime. A similiar uprising occurred in 1991 but meet with failure because the UN coalition at the time failed to support it. This time it is different!

The Ba'ath take a bath.

Iraq will be in total anarchy by next week if the people realize they have nothing to fear. The problem is these are going to be hungry desparate people who will start looting stores to survive.

I hope the US and Brits have plans in place for riot control, because its going to be a mess pretty soon.

Unless of course we can get the McDonalds, Taco Bells, Burger Kings, Wal-Marts, Targets, etc. built real fast.

Putting the Shiites in charge, who make no distinction between religion and government, will likely result in a second Iran. Let's hope the Sunis in some form end up on top.

Thanks for the Link! I think this is Great News that atleast some are voicing the opinions they have been afraid to for so long.

One thing to remember, they are different parties. It would be like the Republicans uprising and killing the Democrats for their oppression.

However, you wouldn't catch the Democrats shooting the Republicans to begin with.
