Movie Hotlinker Warning
 

I am hosting some site for my late biz partners wife. I hadn't been keeping an eye on them and some of the movies in his AVS members area have been hit hard, to the tune of 2000gig over the last 4 weeks.

B: Ask those forums to blacklist your domain.

how can you protect the movies? any proven software

.htaccess and I know my host has a script that won't allow hotlinking of my movies.

The common .htaccess hotlinking protection which protect your images etc wont protect movies since movie players dont send refferal information. We have that software running on all our servers but it has to be enabled per domain. FreeHugeMovies, I just checked your site and i was able to load your movies directly from my media player.

you might review your .htaccess. playaplaya is right that movie players and download managers dont send refferal informations so except your .htaccess is working with a cookie script (which will block everyone who has cookies disabled) or someone tries to inline your movie - the .htaccess is usless for your movies.

but the problem is .. that you also dont have images protected - try www.hotlinking.com .. everyone can hotlink your thumbs etc

The script sends a cookie to your browser, so if you are at my web page or a domain of mine the movie will work. So, a hot linker from one of those forums asking for a "save as" will not work property. :)

The same link I tested I sent to a few people to check if it would load on their end w/o visiting your site. I wouldn't say that with out testing it first. :thumbsup

Clear your cookies and see if these work for you. Maybe it's not working right now. I just was moved to another server.

Right Click + Save Target As... works fine, meaning that I can download them.
